The competition authority has launched an investigation against Nutriversum Kft., A company that distributes food supplements, because the company allegedly made allegations about recommending a doctor or health professional in its videos, the Hungarian Competition Authority said on Thursday (GVH).

An agency investigation makes Nutriversum likely available on its YouTube channel, dr. György Gődény, who became known for his skepticism about the coronavirus, used claims that did not comply with industry regulations in his two videos about coronavir and his 16-part video series, The Internet’s Biggest Tonse about Food Supplements. Under the law of the European Community

In relation to food, a health claim that refers to the recommendations of a doctor, a health professional or, with certain exceptions, a health organization will not be allowed.

Regardless of the reality of their content, such advertising messages are considered infringing, GVH said. According to the agency, the commercial practice on YouTube can be misleading for consumers because the recommendation of a health professional (doctor, pharmacist) sends a message to consumers that the recommended product is more reliable, more effective than others, highlighting as well as other similar products, influencing consumer choice.

The initiation of a competition procedure does not constitute a finding that a company has committed an infringement. The purpose of the procedure is to clarify the facts and prove the alleged infringement. The time allowed for the process is three months, extendable twice, if necessary, for a maximum of two months each – read the notice from the Competition Authority.
