Index – Economy – Let’s celebrate, but also under the tree only with a mask!

“During the second wave of Christmas, the defense regulations of the last nine months remain in effect,” he emphasized to the Index. Balázs Sárosi, the head of the Wáberer Medical Center (WMC) outpatient division, adding that complete security can only be provided if we do not meet with our loved ones this Christmas, but if we decide to do so, it is worth following some principles.

The specialist has revealed that he will also meet his loved ones at Christmas, including his elderly mother, but they will all wear a mask at all times as they continue to pay attention to proper hand hygiene rules.

In the meantime, we try to keep our distance as much as possible, and if at the last minute, even on the morning of December 24, if someone notices any signs of viral infection, we cancel the family reunion without hesitation.

Said the WMC emergency specialist, who has more advice on what makes Christmas more epidemic-proof.

1. Take the most objective self-examination possible!

If we produce any symptoms, even just one, do not underestimate it and show restraint in any way! Let’s cancel the planned program and stay home; otherwise, we put our loved ones at unnecessary risk, especially elderly relatives, parents, grandparents!

2. Wear a mask in the living room too!

I think it sounds unusual, but let’s put the mask as a gift under the Christmas tree and during the festive gathering. An average Hungarian living room does not appear to be more than twenty square meters. Either way, it is not enough for ten people to keep enough distance. The mask may improve the situation in this case, but this Christmas it would be better to avoid mass scenes even within the family.

– Balázs Sárosi argues.

3. If possible, meet with one or two people at a time!

The less we meet at the same time, the less the possibility of infection, of virus transmission. Although the family is likely to gather in the largest room in the houses during the holidays, it is worth minimizing the number of people in a space. Even with changed arrivals and departures.

Balázs Sárosi also suggests that the safest Christmas program may be if families now gather outdoors and take a smaller trip to a less frequented location. Why not?

4. Is it worth trying before Christmas?

There are colleagues who say that a negative coronavirus test gives a false sense of security. However, I find it useful, especially when it comes to the more sensitive PCR test, which detects the presence of the virus two to three days after infection.

– explains the specialist, who also warns that such a test really makes sense if we remain in quarantine for two or three days before the test, the so-called window period, and avoid the crowd, for example, we only buy online.

5. Don’t think children are not infected!

Balázs Sárosi also points out that despite its widespread use in Hungary, it is a misunderstanding that children should not be infected. The coronavirus affects children, and with the exception of high school students over the age of 14, most students even went to school or the community on Friday, December 18.

It is true that children are often asymptomatic or have mild symptoms beyond the infection, but they are not less contagious for this. Also, if a little one first loses his sense of smell, he doesn’t necessarily deal with it, doesn’t introduce yourself to him, and may not even be able to tell him exactly what is happening to him. And we greet when the child coughs two.
