The Hungarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MKIK) consulted with the Prime Minister today to revive the trade and services sector as soon as possible. MKIK proposes the so-called reopening based on square meters in various sectors.
MKIK is fully committed to the protection of human life, accompanied by the need for a well-structured economic relaunch plan that includes faster, more focused and highly responsible business and service opening. This MKIK proposal is in line with the practice and measures of all EU member states
– It can be read in the notice sent to our newspaper. Prime Minister Viktor Orbán announced on Facebook on Tuesday that he was negotiating with a House representative. As said, they are warriors, they want to reopen. However, as he said, you must understand that the safety aspect of life comes first. Until we have vaccinated all of our compatriots over 65 who have registered for vaccination, we cannot start the restart as they are in imminent danger to life, said the Prime Minister.
According to the MKIK statement, the Chamber recommended in the case of retail stores that a reopening call based on square meters be carried out in the aforementioned sector as follows:
- in the case of commercial premises, only one customer for every 5 to 10 square meters may be present in the stores. For stores larger than 100 square feet, you can get 15 or 20 square feet per person.
- In the case of shopping centers and plazas, it is necessary to develop individual regulations, since their operation differs from the type of individual business. Compliance with the square footage restrictions would also apply to these stores. In addition, in the case of people staying / waiting in the common areas of the shopping centers open to the movement and movement of customers, we recommend that the current distance regulations be observed, which the operator must verify.
- To comply with hygiene standards, hand disinfection must be carried out in a controlled manner after entering stores and service points.
- For the physical contact service sector (for example, hairdresser, esthetician, shoe repairman, dry cleaner, seamstress, etc.), when services are provided on premises, we recommend the use of a regulation based on square meters, similar to trade , combined with specific epidemiology. Requirements to be observed, for example limitation of the number of clients, post-client disinfection, use of virus protection tools, etc., which can be opened if they are fully met.
The Chamber also recommends ensuring that people with a protection card have greater access to services, including so that people with a protection card can use the restaurant and tourism services. However, in addition to the above, MKIK does not recommend maintaining a store residency time limit for individual customers.
Prime Minister Viktor Orbán said the government will discuss the chamber’s proposals tomorrow. As we wrote, the Prime Minister had previously consulted with family NGOs about the reopening process at the Center for Single Parents building in Budapest.
