The Hungarian Competition Authority (GVH) also initiated competition supervision proceedings against Vodafone and Magyar Telekom for allegedly misleading their mobile network packages using unlimited use of certain community applications, the competition authority said Thursday afternoon.

In October last year, GVH started a competition supervision process against Magyar Telekom Plc. And then in January of this year against Vodafone Magyarország Zrt., For the same reason:

Businesses are likely to mislead their mobile internet packages with the possibility of unlimited use of certain social applications.

According to the notice of the Competition Authority, the advertisements in question may give the impression to consumers that, in addition to the amount of data included in the mobile Internet package, they can use certain social applications that can (also) be installed in mobile device. . However, some of the data traffic is likely to reduce the reach available to consumers in such cases as well, so its use is not really unlimited.

The initiation of a competition procedure does not mean that the companies have committed the infringement. The objective of the procedure is to clarify the facts and thus prove the alleged infringement. The time allowed to complete the process is three months, extendable twice in each justified case, up to a maximum of two months each – read the GVH announcement.
