Index – Economy – Corona virus has delayed sales of winter and summer tires

Drivers with fewer cars bought fewer winter tires this year, with many preferring to switch to four-season tires for year-round use, Money Center wrote, citing data from Europool, among others. Of the latter, a quarter more were sold in Hungary in the first eight months of the year, while sales of summer and winter tires fell moderately, between 6% and 10%.

Of course, the big picture also includes the fact that the sales rate for the four seasons, even in July this year, which is exceptionally good, is only 8.5 percent, which remained at a level above the 6.9 percent average even in August. Last year, its sales rate was 4.4 percent for the entire year.

Europool data shows that while the overall tire market has grown slowly over the past five years and has stagnated for the past year and a half, full-year tires are advancing at a rapid pace. In Poland, for example, its sales increased to more than 12 percent this year, and in Germany to more than 20 percent.

Manufacturers interviewed by the portal said that ordered cross-country travel restrictions due to the pandemic, as well as the collapse of tourism, could also shift customer demand towards cheaper solutions and boost the market for four-season tires instead. of winter tire sets. Of course, this also contributes to the fact that the frame is lighter, but also to the fact that with new developments, manufacturers are also trying to win the trust of drivers. Not to mention, it also saves the cost of changing tires twice a year.

Experts say that it is important when considering the purchase of a four-season tire to consider key factors such as climate and weather, as well as the condition of the roads. The four-season tire is a solution for those who regularly drive in non-extreme weather conditions, who drive mainly in the city or on managed and well-maintained roads, or who travel up to 20,000 kilometers per year. An alpine ski tour is by no means this category, a winter tire is definitely recommended, or if this is not possible, it is advisable to buy a four-season tire with the markings of three mountain peaks and snowflake (3PMSF ) on the side wall.
