The institution drew attention to the fact that the establishment of non-native mosquito species represents a serious risk throughout the continent. They noted:
insects are capable of introducing many viruses, not only of tropical origin, and they are adaptable and proliferative, so their continuous monitoring is of utmost importance.
According to the National Virology Laboratory, recently in different areas of Hungary in addition to Pécs
for example, the Korean mosquito, the Japanese bush mosquito and the tiger mosquito have also appeared.
The presence of the latter in Pécs was confirmed by researchers with the help of special traps and the most modern molecular biological methods.
In the case of Pécs, we can talk about the appearance of the species for the moment, it will also depend on the winter survival of the eggs laid this autumn, if it can settle and reproduce more in the city.
