“We are outraged by the minister’s statement,” said Anna Komjathy, acting president of the National Board of the Democratic Union of Teachers (PDSZ), who suggested that the organization openly asked the government to vaccinate workers who deal with children out of turn. . . However, Miklós Kásler, Minister of the Ministry of Human Resources (Emmi), responded to a question from a member of parliament on Tuesday:
teachers receive the vaccine in the same way as all other Hungarian citizens, according to their age and health.
In other words, Minister Miklós Kásler reaffirmed his position so far that, despite repeated requests from teachers, he is not willing to give them priority in the order of vaccination. Anna Komjąhy, director of the PDSZ, recalled that, meanwhile, the 60-year-old teachers had not yet been vaccinated more than a week ago and were taught in classes of 30 people every day. However, he also drew attention to the fact that in most European countries, those working in education have priority in the order of vaccination.
An elementary school teacher in Kőbánya made it even more difficult:
The ministerial declaration means the slaughterhouse for us
Mariann Czédly said indignantly, saying that fear among her colleagues had increased.
Vaccination during digital education
If someone’s job does not allow you to stay home with your child, or you cannot care for the child, then, at the request of local governments, you will be allowed to take care of children in kindergartens and schools from Monday.
– said Gergely Gulyás, head of the Prime Minister’s Office, on March 6, after kindergartens closed last Monday to reduce the spread of the coronavirus epidemic, and schools switched to online education as of Monday. Many parents are forced to use school supervision even during digital education, so schools remain the focal points of the epidemic, added Anna Komjąhy.
By continuing to provide supervision to children in addition to digital education, the union said teachers remained in the front line without minimal protection.
The PDSZ director believes that when the schools were temporarily closed, it would have been possible to vaccinate the teachers. He stressed that this would be a guarantee that education could continue under normal conditions and that graduation could be maintained under normal conditions.
IF THE GOVERNMENT WANTS TO OPEN SCHOOLS AND KINDERS IN APRIL, AND WANTED THE DISEASE NOT TO RESTART IN THE INSTITUTIONS, IT IS ALREADY FOR THE DIGITAL WORKING HOURS. IT IS A REMINDER THAT 25% OF SCHOOLS HAVE BEEN AFFECTED BY THE VIRUS BEFORE THE SWITCH TO DIGITAL EDUCATION.
There is no education without vaccination
The PDSZ raised the prospect that educators would even refuse to work if substantial action was not taken. Anna Komjąhy drew attention to the fact that, according to the legislation, the employer must provide employees with conditions in the workplace that do not endanger them. Teachers say you have the right not to take the job.
Still, Anna Komjąhy is optimistic about graduation, as she hopes that the government will finally decide to vaccinate out-of-turn teachers and the third wave of the epidemic subsides by then.
Péter Horváth is more optimistic about vaccinating teachers. The president of the National School of Education drew attention to the fact that
vaccinating teachers is not just a problem for school workers.
In his explanation he stressed that
If we do not want schools, kindergartens, parents to be able to keep their jobs closed for a long time and not have to help the little ones in their studies, it is only possible that schools will reopen. This is not only the desire of educators, but also the interest of society as a whole.
The school principal in Győr was added. To find a solution, the National School of Education is in dialogue with the government, from which it has been promised that plans will be made for extraordinary vaccinations of teachers, as well as a separate draft on how to make the matriculation exam more secure. .
The president of the National School of Education added, there is still a month and a half left for written graduation and all the high schools are working hard to help the situation of graduates.
“I really hope graduation is safe, but it will be possible,” concluded Péter Horváth.
