During an inspection of a catering unit in Budapest, inspectors from the National Office for Food Chain Safety (Nébih) found serious hygiene deficiencies.

The refrigeration capacity of the unit did not guarantee adequate storage conditions, so

semi-finished ingredients waiting to be baked were stored on the shelves and the floor without refrigeration.

The refrigerators were frozen, dirty, the warehouse floor and behind the counter were dirty, there was spilled oil next to the oven and spilled food scraps.

– reveals Nébih’s statement. The authority determined that in addition to the sandwiches and cakes offered at the service counter, the box of insecticides was kept and the guests also returned the used utensils.

The restaurant did not have a suitable place to store, wash and clean the vegetables and water facilities. Iceberg lettuce and salad mix were used unrefined. New arrivals, unpeeled bell peppers, oranges, cucumbers, and cabbage were stored in the guest room. This procedure was also not in line with the authorization granted to the company, which indicated that only clean, cooked and packaged vegetables and fruits could be imported into the unit.

The authority suspended the site with immediate effect. Furthermore, the Authority withdrew with immediate effect ten batches of untraceable or uncleaned lettuce and one batch of expired raw materials, and prohibited their marketing and use.

The breakfast and hamburger in the capital will continue to operate once the food safety deficiencies have been fully addressed, following a favorable on-site inspection by the authority.
