Index – Domestic – In Zugló, Fidesz is not necessary for a political war either

A preselection with a cozy atmosphere can be expected in Budapest No. 8. in the individual constituency of the parliament. Momentum recently announced that Ákos Hadházy is recommending an independent member of parliament as a joint opposition candidate in Zugló. However, the constituency still has an opposition MP, in the person of the socialist Csaba Tóth, who has already clashed with Ákos Hadházy.

The gloves were thrown to the ground

“Zuglo needs a change!” – declared András Rózsa, leader of Momentum in Zugló, at the press conference in which the opposition party recommended the nomination of Ákos Hadházy as support.

András Rózsa also eloquently said that it would not be enough to replace Fidesz in 2022,

we need a Member of Parliament who fights with honor and justice, not with bargains, but who reaches fair agreements.

This in itself was a message of courage and indicated that Momentum may be dissatisfied with the conditions in Zugló.

At the press conference, Ákos Hadházy also emphasized that the opposition can win if people not only listen to them, but also see in them that there will really be a change and they will really see corruption differently.

Politicians have always said that there will be responsibility when they were in the opposition, and then there was nothing, in fact, and then they themselves started stealing more than before.

– said Ákos Hadházy.

He put it more specifically on the ATV and said:

if Csaba Tóth starts, unfortunately he is not the best candidate.

According to Hadházy, there were problems in Zugló, and for the most part he was disturbed by the “silence”, because he did not listen to Csaba Tóth on “issues of strong opposition”, he did not hear strong oppositional speeches from him.

Red cloth in the eyes of the Momentum

By the way, Momentum had never hidden the fact that he did not like the socialist Csaba Tóth. In September last year, in his ATV Breakfast Start broadcast, András Fekete-Győr stated:

There must be a guarantee that the common list does not include people who have harmed Hungarian taxpayers in the last 30 years or participated in such fraud or theft. We will fight for a guarantee for this, the Momentum as the strongest opposition party can.

The president of the Momentum also spoke about the fact that the socialist Csaba Tóth does not want to be seen on the common list or near any political institution, but if he wins the pre-election individually, the will of the electorate prevails.

The MSZP deputy from Zugló filed a complaint against András Fekete-Győr for the crime of defamation, but according to the latest Momentum announcement, the court rejected the claim. According to information from the opposition party, because based on András Fekete-Győr’s previous words, it is not clear in what context he does not want to see Csaba Tóth on the common list.

Like the opposing alliance parties, the Momentum will consistently represent that the common list must not include a person who has ever been fraudulent or harmed taxpayers. We will continue to do so in the future and advocate for the renewal of public life.

– András Fekete-Győr said in response to the court decision.

After Csaba Tóth, he was investigated ten years ago for falsification of public documents. At the time, the suspicion against him was that he had inflated the MSZP’s membership in Vas County with fictitious participants. He was expelled from the party for half a year, but he himself clarified, the prosecution could not prove the fraud.

“Hadházy alternates parties like her underpants”

Csaba Tóth also weighs in on Hadházy’s nomination, and on János Fiala’s morning show he spoke about the fact that Momentum chose Zugló, which is “easily obtainable” from the opposition point of view.

They could have chosen Felcsút or any other Fidesz district, but they want an easier way

– Csaba Tóth said in the Fiala program.

He shows his anger by also explaining that he believes that a man is a snake-frog that shouts at him “to whom the country owes a two-thirds majority of Fidesz.” He even added:

Hadházy alternates matches like his underpants.

Tóth also sees no point in starting an open discussion with Hadházy.

If an opponent arrives who does not come with the intention of sanda, but is capable of doing it seriously for Zugló, I will gladly discuss with him, not with anyone else.

The socialist politician added.

The duel continued on Facebook

The message did not stop here, Csaba Tóth on the community page “No comment!” commented on the video of Mónika Vargáné Csengeri, the mayor of Fidesz de Ludas, which could be interpreted as a response to Ákos Hadházy’s accusations of corruption in relation to markets built with EU funds.

However, according to the independent deputy, the socialist politician not only attacked him, but also defended “these overvalued investments in fraudulent public purchases.”

Tóth updated his original post and wrote that he was pleased to see that he had succeeded in drawing the Independent Member’s attention to the fact that “corruption must be sought where it is and not in the districts of Zugló, Gergely Karácsony and Csaba Horváth”. He also added:

The deputy, if you seriously believe that you want a change of government in 2022, then there are 91 districts where you can remove the mandate from Fidesz, you can win with persistent work. I would just like to remind you that I am one of the 7 MPs who were able to win as an opposition candidate in both 2014 and 2018.

“If I go back to Zuglo, they will bury me”

In relation to Csaba Tóth, it is also memorable that in 2019, before the municipal elections, a court sound leaked, in which the then mayor and candidate for mayor of Zugló, Gergely Karácsony, said:

If I go back to Zugló, I could bury some stories (…), but we can’t start with the soci.

He also spoke of having been threatened on several occasions, and the socialists said that if a civil mayor is elected, everything will be stolen in Zugló. The recording also includes a question and an answer about the relationship between Csaba Tóth and Gergely Karácsony:

“Is it true that you threatened your family?”

– Do not be ridiculous. Several times.

At the time, Christmas admitted to the Index that his relationship with the socialists in Zugló was outraged, but denied that Csaba Tóth had ever threatened his family. He said that he never said that, he was referring to an economic operator from Zugló, not Tóth.

Speaking to the Index, the socialist politician reiterated the Christmas response and also said that political cooperation always involves debates, but debates carry on and always manage to reach an agreement.

Later, to demonstrate their relationship between them, Csaba Tóth posted a joint photo on her Facebook page, to which she wrote:

We send a message to our political opponents that our friendship, our alliance, is rock solid – unshakable! Too bad to try! Come on, Gergő! Gergely Christmas!

Christmas also shared this post with approval:

Exactly, as Csaba says: the opposition coalition is unshakable.

Will Fidesz-KDNP be the third party to laugh?

In the 2018 parliamentary elections, Csaba Tóth, a veteran of the MSZP politician, won with 27,736 (47.23%) votes in the Zugló constituency (he also won in the 2014 elections).

Tamás Jelen, Fidesz-KDNP candidate, received 20,588 (35.06%) votes. Behind them are István Szávay (4,492 votes), who has since become exotic, 44 János Barta (2,410 votes), Attila Szücs (1,771 votes), Zsolt Victora (1,518 votes) and Kolpáli Kolos (209).

Based on the numbers, it is mathematically possible that an opposition candidate will also win elections in the constituency in 2022. It can already be said that the preselection will be at least as exciting as the election itself. However, if the campaign becomes tough among opposition candidates, the government side can benefit from it.
