By Thursday, 6,360 new Hungarian citizens had been diagnosed with a coronavirus infection (Covid-19), increasing the number of infections identified in Hungary to 192,047, said the national medical director, Cecília Müller, at the press conference of the operational staff on Thursday. Most of the 115 deaths were elderly and chronic patients, bringing the number of deaths to 4,229. The number of recovered people increased to 49,616, the number of actively infected people was 138,202. Twenty-one per cent of those actively infected, 24 per cent of the dead and 26 per cent of those recovered were from Budapest. The hospital cares for 7,537 coronavirus patients, 640 of whom are on ventilators.

The number of new infections per day has almost doubled

There are 115 more victims of the coronavirus in Hungary.

Cecília Müller believes that antigen testing works well. He reported that there is a jump in data today, but there may be similar days in the near future as they call for continuous data supply and data is already coming into the data management center from many sources. The chief physician said from antigen testing that 13,578 rapid screenings were conducted yesterday to diagnose suspected cases, largely at the request of a GP.

He also talked about the fact that smokers are more likely to have a complication, and he also talked about ventilating as much as possible indoors. Cecília Müller drew attention to:

Both smoking and e-cigarettes make people more susceptible to contracting the coronavirus, and the course of the disease is more severe and complications can develop in them. The virus can also travel in aerosol droplets, making those around an infected smoker more vulnerable. Obesity, high blood pressure, and diabetes can cause complications in the same way. It is also important to pay attention to indoor air quality, as it must be replaced as often as possible, as ventilation reduces the risk of infection.

The tests are ongoing and the feedback is positive, said István György, Secretary of State for Territorial Administration in the Prime Minister’s Office. He said that the first round of specific tests of social and health institutions will end tomorrow. More than a thousand test teams visit institutions, nurseries, kindergartens and elementary schools. It takes time to process the data, because it is a large amount of data, so

will report the results to operating tension early next week.

The main objective is to protect people and preserve their health – István György emphasized. He noted that the tests are free and voluntary. He said the testers, including 2,000 college students, will also receive a mask, shield and cape to do their jobs in complete safety. He recalled that in one county there was a case where

two students, citing that the protective equipment was inadequate, did not want to participate in the tests.

Police Lieutenant Colonel Róbert Kiss said about the police measures: in the last 24 hours, 664 people have been arrested for lack of a mask. Sixty people were warned, while 518 were fined on the spot, while 38 people were reported in violation. Measures were taken against 15 people in public transport and 33 in shopping centers. Two catering stores were closed: in VIII. A barber shop in District V and a bistro in District V were inspected. In both places, workers wore bad masks: the first was locked up by the police for a week and the second for 30 days. The lieutenant colonel added that 259 people had violated the curfew and 8,517 had been placed in home quarantine the day before.
