By the first day of the new year, the new coronavirus infection (COVID-19) had been detected in 2,764 new Hungarian citizens, increasing the number of infected people in Hungary to 325,278.
Most of the 130 deaths were chronically elderly patients, bringing the number of deaths to 9,667.
According to data from koronavirus.gov.hu, a total of six people died on the first day of the new year in fifty years.

The youngest victim of the epidemic is a 27-year-old woman who has been diagnosed with connective tissue and soft tissue neoplasms;
- a 45-year-old woman has high blood pressure and Crohn’s disease;
- a 48-year-old man suffered from hypertension, heart disease, and diabetes;
- a 49-year-old man was also diabetic and had an enlarged heart;
- a 49-year-old man had cancer;
- while a 49-year-old deceased woman was a kidney transplant patient.
