Despite your young age, you have already won twenty awards in all kinds of categories. Is performance your hobby, or is racing that hot?
It’s more about competition. I like to compete. But not to get first place, not even to be on the podium, but because, for example, someone who cannot afford to go to a theater or concert can also attend the contest and listen to various productions.
Are there artists in your family too or are you the first?
My grandfather traveled almost all over the world. He spent a lot of time in Norway, living in Germany for eight years. He founded a band, he was the singer. My grandmother was an actress at the Miskolc National Theater. And my mom was a pianist.
Have you seen your grandparents stand out?
Unfortunately, my mother did not. And my grandfather was a little older, but when he retired, he was still playing music in a restaurant, playing guitar, and whistling. That’s when he wasn’t singing yet, he was just dancing, but we’ve been performing together ever since.
At the age of three, he became interested in the operetta.
How did singing become part of your daily life? Remember it?
I had a lot of stomach ache and my mom always had to rock me on her lap. He sang to me a lot, especially popular songs. He was two years old when he knew almost all the popular songs from abroad. Later, my interest in them waned. Then I accidentally came across the operetta “Love doesn’t need beauty” on YouTube, which I’ve listened to a lot since then. And at the age of three he was already singing it instead of popular songs. It was then that he became interested in the operetta.
And what do you like about the operetta genre?
Maybe I mean, it’s really funny. I would love to be an operetta singer, although opera is also one of my favorite genres. Fortunately, the two can be done next to each other.
At the age of seven I started going to more serious careers.
I got to a race in the castle palace where I won first place, which made me very happy, but the best thing was that I had a chance of a course that lasted almost a month. Well, we learned a lot of operettas here, and the pace was tremendously fast. In the evening I received an article that I should have known from outside the next morning, without error.
Did you ever feel like it was too much?
I liked it a lot, a lot, I didn’t get tired for a moment, although we studied from Monday to Sunday and from morning to night. Károly Peller and Szilvia Szabó taught singing, Máté Lőrinc was the dance teacher. It was then that I first felt like I could do this every day.
How does all this competition, acting and filming fit in with the school?
In the first I went to school normally, but in the second I am already a private student. In the first, I did it throughout the year, going to Pest many times after school, then when I graduated there, at home in Miskolc, and early the next day again at school. In addition to school, I have also played at the Miskolc National Theater and at the Budapest Operetta Theater. The first year was very difficult, very, but it was important for me to learn the basics in school as soon as possible, like writing, reading.
Since you are a private student, haven’t you missed the company of the children, the game together?
There were children in God’s money at the Operetta Theater. We are fine with one of the girls to this day. Also, when I could get out, I kept in touch with my classmates. There is a playground next to the school, I always met the others there because after school the children meet there. Only now we can’t fix this, right, there is a pandemic.
It would be a great step forward in my career.
How do you spend your days during the epidemic?
I practice a lot. I also have short and long term plans. I would like to appear in both foreign and domestic productions. Also, soon I will have an American career, I am preparing for that.
Don’t you regret not being able to be there in person?
It is often said that everything bad has something good. I cannot travel to New York due to the pandemic, although perhaps I should have done it twice. However, by having to submit a video, we save on travel expenses. But trust me, it will still be very exciting because the stakes are high. Anyone who wins this contest can win a debut concert at Carnegie Hall along with him. Well, that wouldn’t be a small thing, let’s put it this way. It would be a great step forward in my career.
What conditions did you have to meet to be able to participate in this race? Was there a shortlist?
No, but I have already competed in several races where there was an age restriction. Here, for example, letters of recommendation had to be sent. But in another American competition, or the Erzsébet Házy International Singing Competition, where I started, I was only able to enter those over 16, so we had to submit a separate application to be nine years old. I can go. Fortunately, our application has been accepted everywhere so far.
What do you enter in the competition?
I chose two operetta pieces, both by the Queen of the Tavern. One of Szilvia’s banknotes. I wouldn’t take this song in a home race because it’s not necessarily for me, but now it’s a world race, I wanted the best and strongest song. And that is. It was only possible to start in a classical genre, I trust that the competition may have a special color spot, if I take an operetta, a lot of people will start there with an opera.
We talk about singing and theater, what about your cinematographic experiences?
There was a short film called Defekt that I starred in and we competed with it in many places around the world. Directed by a very talented boy, Sándor Gál. What was very interesting was that the short film itself was nominated at the Los Angeles Film Awards, and although it also won an award, I did, too, although it was not nominated. This is also amazing because I won an award in the Best Young Actress category when I was only eight years old and there was a children’s category anyway. I also got an award in Florida, although I wasn’t nominated there, I brought the best child actor award there.
As far as I know, you also shot on a Netflix series, right?
Yes, as an actor They presented me In an American Netflix series filmed with us, The Alienist: Angel of Darkness (Hungarian title: Az elmeorvos). I really enjoyed it because the actors were direct and friendly. I filmed with them for four days and had already taken photos and received signatures with almost everyone. For example, Dakota Fanning, Daniel Brühl, Peta Cornis, and Mark Field. Luke Evans was on the show, and I asked the others how I could get his signature. They said that he didn’t like being “harassed” and that he would rather not ask for a photo together because he likes to be alone during a break. I was sad, but then it turned out that he passed me by on my last day. He praised my costume, we mingled in the speech. Contrary to what was said of him, he was very kind, and at the end of the conversation he said that there is no way I should leave without taking a common photo.
So Luke Evans asked for a joint photo with you, not the other way around?
Yes, after all, yes. Wow, I was very happy.
Did you know the actors of the series before filming? I mean, have you seen them in movies?
I didn’t see everyone except Luke Evans in The Hobbit, for example, and I was really happy when I realized on set that I could work with such a great actor.
My big dream is a plate in swing style
Did you enjoy filming? A completely different world from the theater.
I loved it so much, the scenery and the dresses were amazing. This series is set in an old age and the costumes are wonderful. It’s also amazing that actors are treated without words. They were friendly, cute, and made sure I had everything. For example, when we arrived for the morning shoot from Miskolc, they took me to a big tent where I could eat whatever I wanted. They were very careful not to start working on an empty stomach.
Have you looked at yourself since then? The series has been available for a few weeks.
Well I didn’t want to watch it because I had a pretty scary scene that I’m not going to tell you about right now, because if maybe a younger age group is reading this conversation, I don’t want them to freak out. But all I know is that I am starting the second season.
Did you communicate in English or Hungarian on set?
There were actually two directors, one English and one Hungarian-English, that is, a Hungarian who spoke English. He translated what the chief director asked for. But anyway I am learning the language, because English is fundamental for this career, especially because I want to work abroad.
Do you have plans at home before the big foreign dreams? Like a school?
I would like to attend the Béla Bartók High School of Music in Hungary. My singing teacher, to whom I owe a lot, Ildikó Barta also teaches there.
If you could choose what you would do for the rest of your life, what would it be? Sing, theater or film?
I would choose the movie because the movie can even include the other two genres. I often watch movies where the characters sing.
And what movies or series do you watch in your free time?
My favorite movies are Sherlock Holmes and Robert Downey Jr. is my favorite actor. I am so looking forward to seeing the third part of the movie that I ask Dad every day if it’s out yet. My favorite series, on the other hand, is The Ringed Mylord ?, which I’m watching for the fourth time, albeit in 26 parts, but I’m looking forward to starting over.
And the books? Do you also like to read?
My mom bought me eight books earlier this year and said she would be very proud of me if I read them all before the end of the year. Well now I have 16 books and we still order new ones. So yes, I love reading. My favorite book is The Diary of a Ropi, which is a series of books and fortunately has many parts. We recently bought a book called On the Road to Fame. That is why I am also very interested in theatrical books.
We talk about short and long term plans, but as conscious as you are, would it interest you to know that you have an intermediate plan?
Yes of course. I would like to release a swing-style album, this is my big dream, and right now there are negotiations and negotiations with a record label.
