The 2020 Pulitzer Prizes were presented on Monday night in Hungarian time to reward the best journalistic achievements. A special twist to this year’s awards is that the President of the United States, Donald Trump, got confused on Twitter a few days ago and wrote that journalists will receive a Noble Award (sic!) And not a Pulitzer Prize.

The laureates were primarily concerned with internal US affairs. But there are exceptions: In the Best International Report category, the New York Times received an award for investigating the Putin regime and the Seattle Times for detecting manufacturing defects in Boeing 737 aircraft. The award for best photography went to Reuters for reporting on the protests in Hong Kong.

This year, the “audio journalism” award, which stands for the best radio report, or podcast in a more modern term, was awarded to the This American Life series, which has long been running on US NPR radio.

2018 was an interesting enough draw to receive American rapper Kendrick Lamar’s Best Composition award, but this year there was no decision of a similar caliber. Colson’s Whitehead novel The Nickel Boys won the Best Fiction Writing award.

The full list of winners can be read here.
