Lyford Cay, also known as the world’s first gated community, came to the fore after parting words from John Cleese, legendary Monty Python founder Sean Connery, who also lives on one of the Caribbean islands.

Sean Connery was how he always wanted

He left in peace, the legendary James Bond died in his sleep.

In the mid-1950s, a prominent British businessman bought the areas around the quiet bay on the west side of the island of New Providence, and one of the most exclusive locations in the world was soon rebuilt.

The heyday of the area was in the sixties and seventies, when John F. Kennedy, for example, met with the English prime minister Harold Macmillan, or the owners of the Heinz ketchup factory also built their holiday home on the beach multi-story surrounded on three sides by a swimming pool.

With the advent of globalization, the area has lost some of its luster. At the same time, it is a good indication of its prestige that the English auction houses of Christie’s and Sotheby’s also have a real estate office in the residential park. The first, in addition, is directed by the grandson of the founder Harold Christie.

He once told Mansion Global how Lyford Cay differs from other luxury resorts:

The atmosphere here is like, say, in old Wimbledon. Everyone dresses for dinner, for example, men are expected to wear a jacket. It is not characterized by the pursuit of the latest fashion or pragmatism, on the contrary. If you want to cut it, don’t come here. Neighbors came here precisely to get rid of him. We don’t care where you come from, what your social status is. Everyone here wants to feel good.

Strict rules apply to home renovation too, mostly 50 to 70 years old. All construction plans must be pre-approved by the community council. Therefore, you cannot build new extravagant buildings that contrast strongly with the surroundings. The area of approximately 450 properties will not be expanded, so there is a significant demand for houses and villas here.

In Lyford Cay, a typical 500-600 square meter parcel and a renovated house of about 200 square meters, built in the 1960s and 70s. The price is around two million dollars (600 million guilders), but the prices of properties by the sea or lagoon accessible by yacht can reach $ 40-60 million (12-18 billion guilders).

Residents pay close attention to their incognito. Very little is known about which celebrities chose this tropical paradise as their residence.

The movie buff can imagine this kind of international, vibrant, elegant, understated and exotic atmosphere where James Bond 007 and Mountain Dweller’s Spanish-Egyptian mentor could have a good time.

Sean Connery is dead

He was the first James Bond and the first actor to get rid of the shackles of the role. He was knighted, but fought for Scottish independence.
