More than 6,000 costumed youth marched in central Marseille in southern France on Sunday, threatened with closure due to the growing spread of the coronavirus epidemic.

The local prefecture indicated that the carnivores did not ask for prior permission for the parade and that most of the participants did not follow the health recommendations (keep their distance, wear a mask).

Amazing! Someone said there was something not to be missed in Marseille

– A 26-year-old man dressed as a baker told AFP and added:

Young people are fed up with quarantine. There are no vulnerable older people here, only young people.

According to the police, there were 6,500 carnivals. After defensive distance was not observed and the mask was not used in the unreported incident, several were fined at the scene, but police did not intervene in the event. However, at the end of the procession, the people forcibly dispersed.

A year ago, the Marseille Carnival was lost due to the strict national closure. However, there are currently no restrictions in the southern French city, although the number of infected people per 100,000 inhabitants has already exceeded 250, which is the alert level.

At midnight on Friday, in the 16 most affected French counties, new restrictions came into effect for a month: everyone could leave their place of residence without a time limit, but only in a certain area. Unlike nearby Nice, Marseille is not subject to the new restrictions, but the permanent use of masks is also mandatory there, and the meeting is only allowed for a maximum of six people.
