Géza Bodolay became the director of the Institute of Theater Arts at the University of Theater and Film Arts, hvg.hu reported.

His predecessor, László Bagossy, resigned from his post in protest at the transformation of the university by the foundation and the restriction of its autonomy.

When asked by HVG if it was not problematic to assume the position in the present circumstances, the director replied that

Fortunately, the situation is not up to me to pacify, but for the disturbances between them, my task will be the same as that of my excellent predecessors: organizing and directing the old theatrical “department” – from the Bologna system: “institute”.

Géza Bodolay graduated from Eötvös Loránd University, Department of Hungarian Literary History and History of Comparative Art, and then in 1984 from the School of Cinematographic Arts and Theater. In 2003, he received a doctorate in theater from the same theater.

Between 1984 and 1989 he joined the Szeged National Theater as director. From 1986 to 1989 he was a professor at JATE. From 1989 to 1992 he was director of Kecskemét, from 1992 to 1998 he was director of the National Theater and in 1997 he was acting professor at the Berlin College of Art. Between 1998 and 2008 he was director-director of the Katona József Theater in Kecskemét, and between 2009 and 2018 he was chief director of the Szeged theater. He is a professor at several universities and translates from five languages. Since 2019 he has been director of the National Theater History Museum and Institute belonging to the Petőfi Literary Museum, chaired by Szilárd Demeter.
