And now let us look with His Majesty’s eyes a bit dazzling at the person who bought the reigning Archduke of San Antonio de Vincezo Y. Galapagos, King of the Islands of Happiness, for two dollars for fifty, so at a relatively low price. reasonable. Having such a person on hand for two and a half dollars is still a casual purchase today. “

The hope that our nation’s hilarious treasure, Jenő Rejtő’s novel Fred Piszkos the Captain, could be remade, turned into an all-night international animated feature film.

This time, with the support of the National Film Institute, a professional animation team can put it to work.

The arrangement and part of the script are again written by Ferenc Varsányi. Renowned animator, film director, producer and screenwriter Gábor Csupó also participated in the success of his Hollywood animated series and led the company’s Far East studio as supervisor. He is the first Hungarian director to receive an Emmy award. The Chattering Toddlers series he worked on is the first non-Walt Disney animation to generate more than $ 100 million in revenue.

Ferenc Varsányi has always appreciated his plans for Rejtő. Four years ago I was already on the starting line with the adaptation of the Dirty Fred intervention, but the promised version for 2018 was not completed in the end. Now you can start over, and this time, hopefully, it really turns out who the real Trebitsch is.

This is one of the most widely read Hungarian novels, a true classic of Hungarian literature. The hidden world is our untapped cultural treasure, which I think can really come to life as an animated movie, we want to make a successful movie for audiences both at home and abroad. In the future, we also plan to involve an international co-production partner for this purpose. Jenő Rejtő’s absurd humor and visual world are excellent animation materials.

Because the story of Jimmy and Fred Dirty Fülig is universal, a true story of a beggar and a prince, said Ferenc Varsányi, because

we want to make a film that pays homage to the hidden work, evokes the iconic moments of the novel.

For them, it is key that the film reaches the youngest age group, to be a really bold audience film with strong visuals. Thus the first visual designs were made, which are absolutely based on the descriptions of the novel, moving away from the well-known adaptations of the comic and creating an independent cinematic world.

The film’s co-writer is Doron Anita, of Hungarian-Canadian descent, whose last animated film, The Bread Finder, was nominated for an Oscar in 2018.

The producer of the Canadian-Irish co-production was Angelina Jolie. Dirty Fred the Captain is the first Hungarian feature film to feature Doron Anita, a Canadian-Hungarian citizen born in Beregszász.

I am happy to be able to work in Hungarian with renowned Hungarian artists and young international producers. I was happy to say yes when contacting the producers. Growing up in Transcarpathia, the hidden novels of my generation were a show of freedom, a satirical glimpse behind the Iron Curtain. I think our world still needs a lot to bring people together with humor, lightness, laughter.

Doron Anita feels they can go a long way with this movie too, because the lovable characters of San Antonio and Fülig Jimmy have contributed to an internationally successful movie.

The visual designs for the film were made by Dávid Cserkuti, one of the most famous Hungarian cartoonists, and Zsolt Garisa H. Zsolt Garisa H. retouched and complemented the classic figures from the Pál Korcsmáros comic series published in Füles. Last year the comic Hidden – Korcsmáros – Garisa entitled Dirty Fred Intervenes to the Honorable Regret of Jimmy Fülig was published.

The figures in the animated film currently being made differ from the drawings by Pál Korcsmáros, based on Rejtő’s writings. The first exclusive images are available in the Index for the first time.

“To the ear, Jimmy was a child of the world to the feet. He was very fond of his appearance and manners, he loved music, constantly visited movie theaters and carried sour candy as gentlemen in charity. It was a striking sign that she loved to wash, which no one understood. The slim-shouldered figure did not match the plump face of an adolescent, which was nevertheless bony and broad, with a sizable mouth and huge teeth in the middle. His eternal smile has more than once deceived those who judge their fellow men a little lightly, after his appearance, and that is why the smiling Jimmy was treated superficially or ridiculed. These people, after their recovery, gave a lot of thought to misleading appearances and decided not to draw any conclusions about anyone in the future without complete information. “
