The Netflix series, which evokes Scandinavian crime, arrived in late 2020, yet almost disappeared into the sea of things to watch. It wasn’t even on the high-profile list, though according to the preview, it promised the vibe of an exciting series called Dark.
But Bridgerton, who made his debut a few days earlier, knocked out Equinox, a Danish series called Equinox in Hungarian. At the end of the year, people seem to be more interested in an intriguing, costume-filled love story than a cold, gray, creepy story.
In terms of its genre, the Equinox has fallen into the mystical, fantasy category, and that’s true, the story is based on Celtic mythology. It’s unusual in this regard, but it gives the series its strength.
It starts off excitingly, creates tension, attracts the viewer’s attention, which can hold for a long time,
in the later parts, however, the balloons burst.
The closure makes it seem like the writers are tired of their own story, although it could have been a distinctly brilliant series. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not good for viewers to bite the answers in their mouths, except that in the end we get almost nothing.
At the heart of the story is a girl who, as a little girl, experienced her beloved sister disappearing without a trace with her classmates about drinking after graduation. Disappearance here should not be understood as walking in a labyrinth and never leaving, but at one point they continue to party and at another it seems that they have never existed.
There was nothing left after them except three students.
Teens are in shock, almost everyone is sure they are hiding something. After all, it doesn’t make sense for an entire class to turn into a fog.
And the sister of the missing sister grows up, leaving behind her childhood traumas, her nightmares and her mother, who would not have won the Mother of the Year award if she had only entered the race.
But our protagonist, who works as a nighttime radio operator, is also a role model, a wife who has practically failed, is selfish and, although she has turned her back on her past, she has never been able to process what happened to her. his. Perhaps the latter is the only thing a character can be forgiven as a spectator.
The condition of the now lifeless and burned woman is not improved by the fact that one night, while broadcasting her radio program, one of the three survivors called that she saw the children disappear and the incident.
it will happen again.
The turbulent conversation is interrupted, but this sentence is enough to start the woman, already weak,: years later, her sister follows her disappearance.
The story and the turns of the threads are exciting from start to finish, but as we get closer to the end, everything will become more and more controversial and tangled. The series plays with the fact that it is not possible to decide until the last moment that there are supernatural things, but they can also be the product of the protagonist’s imagination.
The closure makes it almost silly for the viewer, except for those who can still understand, understand what reality is.
There is a possible sequel in the deck, but it should add more than the first season. After all, the story still leads (almost) to an investigation.
However, the atmosphere and created world of the film are exciting. The Danes could have added color to the Netflix series with Hungarian subtitles. Equinox, on the other hand, is sadly still part-time, with many missed opportunities.
