Although the coronavirus went through our calculations that on the first beautiful spring day we would sit in groups on benches, blankets or terraces and have beers with our friends / family, Hungarian brewing could not foresee the events, and spring for the summer, beers brought for those purposes.
Which will not be entirely wasted because the shops and tobacco shops are open. People will definitely drink because they have been drinking before: According to the WHO, there are almost 1 million people in the country with alcohol problems who could be exacerbated by quarantine (Blue Dot has launched a free helpline for them), while there may be those who have not. problems, but now they switched to telecommuting and suddenly found themselves two arms away from a beer can. (We write about drinking at home here).
Then there are those who just love beer, and if they walk into a store once a week or shop online, they’d like to try the new shopping selection. After all, the weather is improving, all we have to do is look out the window or sit on the balcony, and if we have a polish and we close our eyes and unwrap a beer, we can also believe for a few moments that we left holidays.
But you can no longer drink the way you want in company. The term quarantine has come up in the United States to describe that, instead of big community drunks, everyone in quarantine can only have a martini in their own department, usually with the help of some group video chat.
Then of course we can rely on gradual opening, so we tested what the new beers will be in Hungarian shops this spring.
Bitburger and Sierra Nevada Triple Hop’d Lager
Slightly off the field is Triple Hop’d Lager, which was born out of a collaboration between an American and a German brewery. Founded in 1979, the Sierra Nevada of California can safely be called a legendary brewery, they are often associated with the craft beer revolution in America, and are now the largest private brewery in the United States.
Recently, by the way, they responded to quarantine times at home by posting a recipe for their first iconic beer, so you can try brewing it at home if someone has the equipment for it. In today’s beer, the other party is Bitburger, one of the most popular large-scale breweries in Germany, with its beers easily in larger stores.
The Triple Hop’d Lager, born from joint work, went to the American hops (Cascade, Chinook and Centennial) correctly, and the end result was a fair beer with citrus aromas. Although it is 5.8%, but it is of the “most drinkable” variety, in the spring heat it is easy to take a sip on the balcony, sitting by a window, it slides properly, its color is also beautiful. For me, it was the strongest competitor in the field, in terms of price / quality, it is especially worth it if one wants a flavor that is slightly more characteristic than the usual large-scale beers. I can’t add anything to the expert part, but it’s really the best beer I haven’t bought while researching or playing at festivals, but just in a store. (Officially only available at Intersparok, but I was also able to buy it at City Spar.) And it is a great advantage that it is in 3 decision packages, you can drink it before it gets cold. (Klagen)
Borsodi Hoppy
Borsodi has worn off my life for a while, because their beers didn’t give me a fever, I’m sick of the name of the Borsodi Master beer, so I was surprised to be attacked with a hoplager-type beer, because so far they haven’t been ventured into that terrain. Hoplager can more or less be described as a light beer for which a more pronounced amount of hops has been used, so the end results should also be more pronounced.
And it is that Hoppy became a pleasant surprise. You immediately smell it, the hops come out right and the taste is fine, although I was very afraid that the first positive impression would be followed by a depressing aftertaste, but in the end it was lost. It’s not even worth digging into this and comparing it to the craft line, the point is, it’s a slippery 4.5% beer for the summer. Oh, and the pumpkin is good, the design of the box has become clear. Dreher IPA
Dreher boarded the IPA train with some phase delays and left in the spring with the Dreher IPA, which, according to a press release, was being loaded with hops from Citra, Mosaic, Cascade, Centennial, Azacca and Pekko. Going with six types of hops may also seem like a bit of a tradeoff, because it’s better for peasant blindness, but let’s jump.
My biggest problem was that I couldn’t think of anything during the tasting, a few minutes later I couldn’t really remember how it tasted. Okay, I can’t expect a full-scale beer with less than three hundred forints to be my life’s beer experience, but I was hoping for something a little more lasting. I tried it again a few days later, but even then I came to the conclusion that it mostly seems like a “let’s get over it” solution. It did not convince me, but anyone who wants to know this line can try it. (Horse)
It really wasn’t like unpacking a beer, I started drinking and then wrote an article about it, but neither during nor after I had an idea, plus it really didn’t remind me of anything else on the Dreher IPA that It is a liquid. Completely neutral, if Bud Light is the most unusual beer in legendary American mass brewing, then it is two, for example, above. I don’t think it will hurt anyone, but for some people I can imagine that after that it says I greeted you kindly, I no longer take any other IPAs in my hands. (Klagen)
Soproni Care Duhaj Cherry Ale
When it comes to all of this, Cautious Duhaj was the biggest launch a large-scale manufacturer could play in this market. I mean, the launch wasn’t the best, but the result of making a beer that ultimately didn’t taste like a hundred more, and in the meantime it could be popular with those who drank that hundred all their lives. I will never forget the summer when it came out, and in a rural Tesco I had to look for different promotional shelves because they were taken as sugar.
Soproni started boosting the product quite understandably, there was also a Cautious Duhaj APA, Porter, and Meggy Ale, and in 2020 Raspberry Ale, which reminds me of most of the dark era in my life, when I drank a jug in Poland. Beers I ordered raspberry syrup. It was a weird time, and I didn’t thank Sopron so much for reminding me of Raspberry Ale, which I could best describe as if Radler was a beer for beer haters, it’s also a beer for those who hate Radler. They hate it and want to drink some raspberries, plus they complain about anything that reminds them of hops or malt.
If there are people who half a box they think they would rather drink a raspberry syrup, this beer was made for them. It’s ridiculously easy to drink, but I get the feeling that sitting on the balcony is now ridiculously easy to get into with a little alcohol. Soproni marks the intensity of the flavor as 5/5 on the side of the box in its own rating system, which I understand, because I only feel raspberries, nothing else, if it does not contain alcohol, I might even start thinking about my childhood. I have raspberry syrups that always had less soda than I should. (Klagen)
