When American journalist Daniel Pearl was beheaded by terrorists in Pakistan in 2002, even the entire world was stunned.
In 2014, the jihadists of the Islamic State (ISIS) also ended up beheading their first American victim, James Foley, and two weeks later with Steve Sotloff; they were also journalists. They were killed in Syria: Rakka and Aleppo.
Islamists are now doing the same to their Western victims in Europe. In Nice yesterday, according to French news sources, an elderly woman who has since been captured was “practically beheaded” by an elderly woman who went to pray at Notre-Dame Cathedral in the large city in southern France. The twenty-year-old man mentioned in the press as Brahim, who supposedly heard Allah Akbar’s cry, also killed two more people. In France, as a result, the highest level of terrorist preparedness has been ordered.
In addition to Paris, a history professor was recently the victim of a similar terrorist attack. In his free speech class, Samuel Paty also presented two cartoons of Mohammed to his students after talking to Muslim students to get them to leave the room in peace if they felt uncomfortable. An 18-year-old Chechen man, Abdullak Anzorov, cut his neck and finished.
France has been plagued by a wave of Islamist killings for years; more than 250 have already lost their lives in this.
But beheading so close to us is still a fairly new phenomenon.
There is no argument in Islamic law that justifies such an act or that it has a sacred meaning. Beheading is also considered murder by moderate believers, that is, Muslims.
Robert Manyasz, an expert on Islamic law who studied the Sunni and Shiite religion in Lebanon, Iran and Syria, told Index. He believes that the purpose of the terrorists in such a case may be to deter, to intimidate; the Arabic equivalent of the word terror, irhab also expresses this.
“They also know that, unlike Islamic culture, Europe is taboo, so the visual representation of death is a conflict.”
The knife is an easy weapon to hide
ISIS drew attention to itself in 2014 by uploading Foley’s execution as a message to the United States to share YouTube videos.
And France, deviated from its original meaning: denial of religion, appears to the extremists in the eyes of the extremists.
Recently, the number of terrorist and terrorist acts with firearms, which require serious preparations, has decreased, also thanks to intelligence cooperation. However, the number of knife attacks increased; In 2016, the ISIS propaganda magazine Rumijah specifically encouraged fans to use hack tools to deal with the enemies of Islam because it is a cheap, easily obtainable, and well-hidden weapon. In France alone, more than a dozen terrorist knife attacks have been followed in five years. But beheading is murder with a cutting tool: the most brutal and striking act possible, which is the most effective means of inciting fear in Europe.
