The new coronavirus mutation detected in the UK may already be in Slovakia, Health Minister Marek Krajčí said. He added that for those arriving in Slovakia from Britain, compliance with quarantine measures and testing obligations is more strictly monitored, wrote Ujszo.com.
Krajci put it this way:
Given that a significant proportion of the population moves between England and Slovakia, it is likely that a new coronavirus mutation is already present in Slovakia.
He indicated that the Slovak curve is very similar to the curve for infected areas in England. The presence of the mutated virus is also indicated by the high infection rate in some marginalized communities. Krajčí claims that a major laboratory in Slovakia can detect a new, more infectious version of the coronavirus from PCR samples, and even antigen tests can detect the mutated virus.
In Slovakia, the number of infected people registered in one day is again over three thousand.
He indicated that due to the high rate of reproduction of the new variant, it is 40 percent more difficult to fight against it than against the original type.
However, the course of the disease is very similar for the mutated virus. The minister pointed out that the population is in danger of being completely infected, which could lead to the collapse of the health system. Vaccination can save the population from this, he added. Krajčí called on residents to respect the curfew and established precautions.
