In its closed-door session on Monday, the Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee voted for the Hungarian ambassadors in Bogotá, Bern and Havana, the Index was reported. Two of the three diplomats are considered political appointees,

Zsófia Vitézy will represent Hungary in Colombia and József Sugar in Switzerland.

József Czukor, from head of the Information Office to head of the Berne branch; the routine diplomat received from the press the label “Viktor Orbán’s favorite intelligence officer”. He made a career on the German line, earning a professional reputation at the embassies in Bonn and then Berlin in the 1990s. From 2002 to 2004, he was Director General of the Information Office and then Ambassador in Ljublajan, Slovenia. In 2010 he became Ambassador to Berlin and since autumn 2015 he served as Orbán’s Chief Foreign Policy Advisor. He headed the Information Office in 2018, from which he departed in early October this year. According to the Index, at today’s meeting of the Foreign Affairs Committee, Czukor was asked why he had to leave the intelligence chief after two years.

Even more exciting is the person of Zsófia Vitézy, who goes to Bogotá, because she is a cousin of the Prime Minister. Vitézy gained experience in cultural diplomacy, previously heading the Hungarian Institute in Brussels. He started his career at Magyar Nemzet, after 2010 he became Emmi’s press officer, and since 2011 he directed the Budapest Festival Center.

Foreign Relations delegates a career diplomat to Cuba. Balázs Heincz, Head of the Department of Water Diplomacy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, has been appointed Head of the Embassy in Havana.
