Denials of the coronavirus epidemic were demonstrated on Saturday in the historic center of Rome against precautions to prevent the spread of the infection, writes the MTI. Thousands of people marched through the streets, but none were wearing masks, and despite the demonstrations, the number of infected has been rising steadily for five weeks. From Friday to Saturday, another 1,700 people were confirmed to have contracted the coronavirus.

The move was condemned by several Italian politicians. Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte confronted the figures in a message to protesters, the epidemic already has 35,000 dead in Italy and more than 276,000 infected.

The demonstration was also condemned by Chancellor Luigi De Maio and Virginia Raggi, Mayor of Rome.

Skeptics were not convinced by the fact that former Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi has been hospitalized since Thursday, also for a coronavirus infection. His doctors say his condition is stable.
