According to Ján Mikas, the national chief physician, the epidemic situation in Slovakia has deteriorated significantly and the measures introduced at the border have not proven to be effective. The infection is also mainly spread at mass events in our northern neighbor as well as at home: weddings and corporate events. Slovak citizens are not yet recommended to travel to Austria or Hungary, but returnees do not have to present a negative test and are not quarantined.

Slovakia is introducing further tightening due to coronavirus

In terms of travel, the Czech Republic has been included in the list of red countries, but according to the Slovaks, the prospects are not good in Hungary or Austria either.

Since October 1, the central crisis staff banned all mass events, including cultural, sporting and religious events. The exceptions are weddings, funerals, baptisms, meetings of state and administrative bodies, and events in which all participants have a negative virus test of no more than 12 hours. Stores and malls also limit the number of shoppers. Only enough people can be allowed in for a buyer to reach an area of 10 square meters.

It will also be mandatory to wear a mask outdoors if a person who does not live in a home is within two meters of the person. Due to the alarming figures, they are considering declaring a 90-day general emergency in Slovakia.

In the Czech Republic, however, the Minister of Health has proposed a declaration of a state of emergency.

In Slovakia, a record number of coronavirus infections were identified in 24 hours

The 235 cases are almost double those detected in the first wave in one day.
