Index – Abroad – More deaths, sentences continue in Western Europe

The number of fatalities continued to rise during the sentence period that reached Western Europe. Parts of the Alps and the areas south of them, France, Italy, Switzerland and Austria, continue to be battered by heavy storms, rains and floods.

The death toll in Italy rose to seven on Sunday after five bodies were found on a stretch of coastline in northern Italy. They were probably washed away by a swollen river, so their corpses could have reached the sea. Fortunately, the person registered as missing on Saturday, however, was lucky enough to be found on Sunday.

There has been an unprecedented amount of rain in parts of northwestern Italy for 60 years, and the situation is particularly dire in Piedmont. In its northeast Venice, it successfully overcame its first live deployment of the dam system that was recently put into operation, so that despite the high water level, St. Mark’s Square remained dry.

The trial isolated several settlements on the French Riviera, near Nice, from the outside world. French Prime Minister Jean Castex announced on Saturday that he would mobilize the military to deal with the situation after eight disappeared.

In Austria, a four-year-old boy was killed when a tree crashed in a storm, and in Switzerland, one of the main roads had to be closed on Saturday due to running water.
