The mandatory quarantine goes into effect in Germany today: only the most necessary can now be fixed in the most populous country in the European Union, 83 million:
You can go to the polar store, the supermarket, the bank branch, but not to the hairdresser, for example.
The restrictions will not be lifted before January 10, the Sunday before the first full work week in 2021.
According to the restrictions
- members of up to two households can continue to meet; excluding children under 14, this means a maximum of five people.
- This restriction will be relaxed a bit on Christmas, from December 24 to 26, so that households, up to four people, but only close family members, can be invited to celebrate in each household.
- A nationwide ban on gatherings will be introduced on New Years Eve and New Years Day.
Only on the fifth day of quarantine can a coronavirus test be performed, which can make it difficult for many Hungarian workers in Germany to return home. This could affect thousands of Hungarian workers working abroad.
We can read about a number of carpool deals on online forums, and we have compatriots who undergo quarantine and tests to see their relatives living at home. However, there are also those who do not even return home during the holidays due to restrictions.
I don’t want to travel to Hungary, because I would have to go back to work on January 2nd. However, I would not be able to return to Germany before December 27, as I would definitely like to spend the Christmas period at home with my family. They told me at work that if I traveled and couldn’t get to work on time, they would send me on leave without pay.
The Hungarian clerk from a Bavarian supermarket told Index, asking that his name be withheld. A Hungarian worker, who also worked as an assistant in a Bavarian yarn factory, reported that he wanted to spend the holidays with his family in Hungary and that he would not work again until 11 January.
But he fears the obligation to quarantine: if he were quarantined after returning to Germany, the employer would also send him on leave without pay.
There are more reckless. A member of an internet group called the Hungarians in Munich, which numbers nearly 100,000, wrote:
We go home with a negative test, an employer certificate and we take the quarantine (s)!
Damage relief in winter months
The restrictions announced in recent days were decided by the federal government and the 16 German Länder after precautionary measures introduced in early November failed to halt the second wave and slow the spread of the coronavirus. As the telegraph office reported, the number of new infections has started to skyrocket again.
From today
- kindergarten and public education will be transferred to the on-call system,
- and employers were asked to make it possible to work from home (home office).
According to the latest data from the Robert Koch Institute of Public Health, the presence of the coronavirus has been detected in the bodies of more than 1.35 million people, and more than 22,000 have already died from complications of the disease in Germans.
The search for those responsible has started in the country as the otherwise disciplined German population will no longer be able to enjoy the benefits of the relatively good initial epidemiological situation in the spring of the end of the year. This week’s cover of the leading German news magazine Der Spiegel paints a picture of winter failure from sinister curves.
The facts are infallible and depressing
German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier said.
Leading German researchers have previously warned of the dangers of summer relaxation, while there are also regular rallies in the country by anti-virus protesters, wearing masks and restrictions in general.
The notary of Der Spiegel now bitterly states:
the good thing about this new closure is that we already know how it works. we had all experienced it in March. We know that Germany will not run out of toilet paper. we know which sound recordings bring children closer together for an hour so that we can work in peace during that time … we are already at a high level of quarantine.
The Germans also hope that, after the British, Canadians and Americans, EU member states among developed countries will be able to start mass vaccinations against the coronavirus from December.
