This was Tamás Deutsch’s last chance, Othmar Karas told puls24.at in a video interview with the portal. Karas, the vice president of the European People’s Party, added that the fate of him and Fidesz in the conservative party family will be revealed later. It all depends on how they behave in the future.

Karas hopes that the European People’s Party will make a final decision on Fidesz membership as soon as the epidemiological situation allows, preferably in February.

Which is a lot, a lot ”, said the Austrian politician on the topic of Puls 24, who said that it is impossible to return to the agenda if the thought of the leader of the Manfred Weber Group is compared with the Nazi or communist methods. Therefore, Tamás Deutsch has crossed a red line, said Karas, who therefore wants to see the Hungarian representative expelled from the EU parliamentary faction of the European People’s Party.

My exclusion proposal has not been removed from the table and will be removed again in February at the latest

The politician stood out.

The Popular Party faction discussed the issue for the past seven hours, when he made Solomon’s decision, Deutsch was not excluded, but his licenses were revoked. However, according to Karas, this is not enough. We want what happened to have consequences. It is not just one person, but the entire delegation that goes against the values of the European Union and the European People’s Party.

The Austrian politician emphasized that Fidesz constantly attacks the European People’s Party and its core values, which is detrimental to the party’s family. The politician characterized Fidesz as first provocateur, later denying his claims and calling others wrong. According to him, this endangers the credibility of the European People’s Party and calls into question the EU’s capacity for action. Those who are members of the Conservative Party family should not automatically be members of our group, Karas noted, noting that the values of Viktor Orbán and Fidesz did not comply with the basic principles of the European People’s Party, namely European integration, the state of law, independent justice, media free from political interference, support for civil society and protection of human rights and minorities.

He drew attention to another provocation and will again discuss the possibility of exclusion.

Karas also added that Fidesz’s policy was incompatible with the policy of the Conservative party family and the principles of the EU, citing as an example the amendment of the constitution, playing on anti-Semitism and restricting press freedom as a reason for exclusion.

On Wednesday night, almost 96 percent of the Popular Party deputies voted in favor of the motion for a resolution tabled by the faction leader, in which they strongly condemned Deutsch’s statements but suspended his rights instead of excluding them. . Deutsch’s exclusion was initiated because he had previously compared one of Manfred Weber’s statements made by the People’s Party leader in the debate on the rule of law with the arguments of the Gestapo and ÁVH.
