Emmanuel Macron probably got infected at the summit of European heads of state and government in Brussels last week, where he spent about twenty hours negotiating. Due to the announcement of his illness, several political leaders, including Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, Charles Michel, President of the European Council, Belgian Prime Minister Alexander De Croo and Portuguese Prime Minister Antonio Costa, have entered into voluntary quarantine.
The French president himself, MTI writes, was tormented by fever, cough and physical pain, but despite his illness he was able to work remotely. It has not been revealed whether the head of state has already returned to Paris at the Elysee Palace, or where he intends to spend the Christmas holidays.
In the announcement, the head of state wished the French a pleasant holiday. In light of the epidemic, he also stressed the importance of keeping your distance and staying in touch to create a Christmas atmosphere for a few hours.
The coronavirus epidemic continues to spread dangerously in France, with authorities registering between 12 and 18,000 new cases a day in recent days. Many professionals fear that after the end of the year holidays these figures will continue to rise.
