Storms brought on by a storm named Alex washed away roads and houses. Several villages near Nice suffered severe damage. At least 8 people have disappeared on the French side of the border, including two firefighters dragged through the water with their cars. In Italy, in addition to one death, 11 people are not found. An unfortunate firefighter fell onto a falling tree branch. Among the missing is a group of six German tourists who embarked on a hike but have shown no signs of life since. Alberto Cirio, Piedmont regional leader, asked the government to declare a state of emergency.

In France, the municipalities most affected by the verdict are in the valleys of the Roya and Vésubie rivers. The flooding of the two rivers isolated several settlements from the outside world in the area, including Saint-Martin-Vésubie. Firefighters said many houses were flooded or washed away. The Saint-Martin-Vésubie bridge, with a population of 1,400, was also destroyed for the price. Dozens of people in the village were safe at night. Communication connections are hampered and thousands of homes in the area have been left without power. Several sections of the highway became impassable.

The area received an average of 200-350 millimeters and in some places 500 millimeters of rain during the day.
