For years, the German government has been told to oppose the rule of law. According to the Minister of Justice, this is exactly what is happening.

Ludovic Orban said that all EU citizens, including all Hungarians, are interested in adopting the recovery plan as soon as possible, as this European funding is “one of the cornerstones of economic recovery” and any postponement would negatively affect to the quality of life of citizens. Orban rejected the arguments of Hungary and Poland, saying that “the rule of law is a guarantee for all taxpayers that the money will be spent correctly.”

German State Minister on EU veto: not just a solution needed, but a quick fix

The threat from the Hungarian and Polish governments is not popular in the EU.

The French news agency recalled that Romania had previously been the target of attacks in Brussels when the Social Democrats in government between 2017 and 2019 implemented a “controversial” reform of the judiciary. However, Bucharest’s position on the issue changed radically in November 2019, when a liberal government came to power that opposed the amendments.
