The Arecibo Observatory in Puerto Rico was permanently closed in November after being severely damaged several times. The entire building would have been demolished as planned, but on December 2, the observatory collapsed on its own. A video of the accident was also made.

No one was injured in the accident.

The observatory was delivered almost sixty years ago, in 1963, when it was the largest radio telescope on Earth with its 305 meter diameter antenna. It also became a major part of pop culture – James Bond’s Goldeneye and 1997’s The Relationship were also shot here.
