On September 1, the strictest border protection measures imposed due to the coronavirus epidemic went into effect. In addition to the 37 designated border crossings at the time, another 24 have been opened since then, mainly for travelers.

To prevent the spread of the epidemic, the government has decided to temporarily reestablish border control in the border sections of Slovenia, Austria and Slovakia and internal air border crossings for 30 days from September 1, and border crossings are only possible at designated border crossings.

After the introduction of the restriction, 37 crossing points could be used, but since then, mainly to meet the needs of people living in border settlements, another 24 crossing points have been operating.

According to a summary prepared by the National Police Headquarters for the MTI, on September 1, in addition to the originally designated locations, the Existence, Beehive and Beszomb crossings on the Romanian border were opened for bilateral passenger and freight traffic, and on September 4 for the Nagykerek Highway. border crossing for international passenger and freight traffic.

On September 2, the Sátoraljaújhely crossing was opened at the border with Slovakia for bilateral passenger and freight traffic. Starting on September 5, there will be crossings for bilateral passenger traffic on the Slovenian border between Bilvölgy and into Austria from Lower Szöln, Saint Petersburg, Bozsok and Győr.

Also on that day, the Letkés, Balassagyarmat, Nógrádszakál crossings and the local border crossing of Sátoraljaújhely on the Slovak-Hungarian border were opened for bilateral passenger traffic. for passenger and freight traffic.

As of September 5, the Esztergom water crossing will also be available for bilateral freight traffic. On September 8, the Pinkamindszent crossing on the Austro-Hungarian border was opened and on September 10 the Rajka-Slovakia crossing was opened to bilateral passenger traffic.

The Komárom (Monostori Bridge) crossing on the Slovak-Hungarian border was added to the queue on September 17 in the case of international passenger and freight traffic, and on the 21st of Austria the Pornapáti and Ágfalva crossing was opened to traffic bilateral passenger on the Austro-Hungarian border.

The crossings of St. Petersburg, Târgu Mureş, Komárom, Esztergom, Balassagyarmat, Somoskőújfalu, Tornyosnémeti, Nagykereki, Bee-and-Szombor, as well as the larger crossing at Sátoraljaújhely can be used throughout the day, but the other crossings open from the September 1 can only be used intermittently.
