At the end of August, the capital city decided to finalize the Grand Boulevard bike lane, according to which motorists will recover the two transit lanes before painting the temporary bike lanes in the section of Grand Boulevard south of Blaha Lujza square.
However, this was done, in accordance with article 444.hu, the Budapest transport center restored the two-car lane by moving the bicycle lane to the sidewalk.
The newspaper writes that the first place of its kind on the boulevard from Blaha Lujza Square to Petőfi Bridge is the vicinity of the Rákóczi tér tram stop, and shortly afterwards cyclists have to return to the pavement between Krúdy Gyula utca and Baross utca, and the last section of this type is in front of the Corvin neighborhood tram stop at the intersection of Pál Street and Boulevard.
The lanes leading to the sidewalk were much narrower than those on the carriageway, which can also be a problem because the space between cyclists and pedestrians is quite narrow.
Áron Halász, Vice President of the Hungarian Cycling Club, spoke to 444 about
The Cycling Club is now asking the metropolitan municipality to paint signs on the roads in parallel with the bicycle lanes that lead to the sidewalk, so that at least those who have more confidence in the traffic can alleviate the cycling load on the sidewalks.
