The new coronavirus infection (COVID-19) was detected in 1,791 new Hungarian citizens, thus increasing the number of infected people identified in Hungary to 44,816. Twenty-four chronically elderly patients have died, bringing the number of people killed by the virus to 1,109 and 13,580 have already recovered, the official government gazette said Saturday morning.

The number of active infections is 30,127. 32% of the actively infected, 42% of the dead and 30% of those recovered are from Budapest. 1,693 coronavirus patients are being hospitalized, 185 of whom are on respirators.

The second wave of the epidemic is occurring in Hungary. The government’s goal is to keep the country running and not let the virus paralyze everyday life. However, this requires general precautions – they write on the website.

The virus is spreading dynamically across Europe, so border controls and entry restrictions are still in place, and the prime minister asked Hungarian families not to plan to ski abroad now.

Attention is drawn to the fact that the use of the mask is mandatory not only in shops and public transport, but also in cinemas, theaters, shopping centers, health and social care establishments and customer reception offices. After 23:00, restaurants and entertainment venues must be closed.

To curb the spread of the community, we will continue to avoid places where there are a lot of people inside, preferably keep social distance, wash your hands frequently and thoroughly. Anyone who has received the official home quarantine order for a stay abroad or for any other reason must strictly comply. Anyone with symptoms should not go into the community, but rather stay home and notify their GP by phone, authorities say.

The protection of elderly and chronic patients is of the utmost importance.

Older people are also asked to pay close attention to themselves and general precautions. Visiting hospitals and nursing homes is prohibited. And nursing home owners should do everything they can to prevent infection. If a focal point takes place in a social institution or elsewhere in the community, the epidemiological deployment unit will take the necessary actions, they write.

In addition to maintaining health protection, the government is working on additional economic and family protection measures.
