Sixty-five have died in the past 24 hours on Covid-19. The health spokesperson said that 96,448 people have been infected with the coronavirus so far, the number of deaths is 6,156 and 2,787 patients are in critical condition. Eighty percent of those infected recovered. Official Iranian data is also greeted with skepticism by domestic and foreign experts.

The Health Ministry recently declared 116 cities as a coronavirus-free zone. In these settlements, life may return to normal in the coming weeks, the ministry stressed.

Iran’s ISNA news agency quoted Deputy Health Minister Mohammad Reza Saneszaz on Saturday as saying there will be two or three more waves of epidemics in the country. “There is no question about it. It will inevitably happen,” Sanesaz said. He added that more massive illnesses are expected in the fall months, and this is a serious concern for the portfolio. The pandemic has paralyzed 70 percent of Iran’s economy, which is already plummeting, due to US sanctions. Although stores may have reopened in the country, schools, sports facilities, mosques, and holy sites are still inaccessible due to the risk of infection.
