In 2021, Vettel will continue his F1 career at Aston Martin, now still known as Racing Point: this was announced Thursday morning at the Silverstone barn.
The German competitor answered questions from journalists at the Tuscan Grand Prix venue in Mugello, such as: how close he came to completing his racing career.
“I was close to him. I don’t know if it is possible to measure how close a person is to this, but I was close to that, I thought about it a lot. And I decided to put myself first in that regard, I see what is best for me, “Vettel said when asked by RaceFans.
“And what I finally decided is what I think is best for me, and I can’t wait to try it.”
Vettel believes Racing Point is in an excellent position to benefit from the budget cap that will go into effect next year, mainly based on the performance of the barn this year.
However, the team has also come under fire, as this year’s RP20 car is similar to last year’s Mercedes.
“Obviously there has been a lot of talk on this issue in recent weeks, but to be honest, it did not play an important role from my point of view because I believe in the team and I am convinced of the strength of the team.”
