The prime minister has previously indicated that he has no intention of resigning without an absolute majority.
Conte widely repeated his speech in the Senate to the House of Representatives. He called on all parliamentary forces to work together to continue governance, as he put it, in the current “crucial” period. He stressed that the lack of political stability in a health and economic emergency could lead to “anger and violence from the population.”
According to a joint statement from Matteo Salvini’s center-right coalition parties, the League, the Italian Brothers (FdI) and Hajrá Italia (FI), Conte spoke to parliament about “non-existent government achievements” while the only viable path for the country . Opposition parties have complained that the “chameleon” Conte has led a different coalition every year since 2018 with a “cynical transformation”.
