Message to the signatories, or where is the border?
I quote below the part of the resolution against me in which I object to the lack of professionalism, ignorance and the presumption of intention to incite hatred, which I also ask myself in this way:
“Also, we distance ourselves from any psychologist like that Bagdy Emőke which contain unprofessional statements and contrary to the current position of science and which are expected to have the effect of increasing hatred and social exclusion. Based on the findings of research in psychology, we can assume that through its impact on both the members of the group featured in the book and the children of the mainstream society, the publication of the book can help a more tolerant society, peaceful and egalitarian so that it becomes more than just a fairy tale.
Emőke Bagdy: I predict that there are scientific facts, these are evidence-based validity. It is not the public’s taste that decides its truth. My own contribution to the “question of fairy tales” was made only in light of scientific facts. which I oppose in the name of scientific facts.
What are we talking about? I didn’t have a word for the story, I just didn’t read it. However, I had and still have to add to the laws of developmental psychology in the 3-6 year period. What would the signers say is unscientific about me? Let’s not talk about later ages, whose supposed research results are criticized, but let’s stick with those from 3 to 6 years old.
Who dares to deny that this age is, according to the psychological scientific evidence of epigenetic development, a sensitive period of identification with one’s gender? Then the child automatically, unintentionally, under the influence of emotional drives, downloads the parent’s pattern of behavior corresponding to his own gender. It is not about conscious identification, but about unconsciousness, following the emotional control function of the brain. The left hemisphere of the brain, that is, conscious awareness, is myelinated by the age of six and gradually becomes involved in functional control. The child’s thought occurs in symbolic, analogous processes, it looks and looks like, it looks like what is seen, the girl acts, speaks like her mother, the boy, like her father. It is as good for him as it is for everything the environment has to offer. There is also a genetic growth schedule and a corresponding social and psychological time window, these two together make up the social man. Development is harmonious when there is an adequate social fit for biological sex, reinforcing it.
For me, the main theme of criticism is that When 90 percent of the population is characterized by this biological and social integration of gender and develops without disturbances, it represents the majority, why is it so important to sensitize minority processes through fairy tales? Do some people want to change the average? Do we consider primarily important, that it affects few? I wonder why? Because if the goal were to achieve acceptance and tolerance for otherness, we would not have to focus on the age group of 3 to 6 years, but on the conscious educational process that begins with school age. Between 3 and 6 years old, in the case of a sample offer (such as fairy tales), only automatic download of the identification software can be performed. This is the goal? That the average is different, the majority? What kind of? This already presupposes ideological influence.
I can write with a clear heart that I have never activated and will not activate any kind of hatred. I respect otherness and protest against all exclusion. I can say, by the example of my own destiny, that I know what is otherness, exclusion. I know what it’s like to be a class enemy, to get off the “average” as a kid. Until the age of 23, I only drank the juice of negative social discrimination due to my exclusion of origin. Would it incite hatred? They are deeply outraged by the unfounded accusations.
I ask to speak on behalf of the heterosexual majority and, with the utmost respect, be tolerant of those who ask for tolerance wanting to be happy in their own right. I ask those who have collected signatures, referring to their section formed within the framework of the Hungarian Psychological Society, expressing unfounded accusations against me, stop the emotion that you have successfully achieved. This anger was not caused by me, but by his own anger. Of the fifteen thousand Hungarian psychologists, a thousand signatories are with you, but we do not know what the fourteen thousand think. I can only know from your letters of agreement that they do not agree with you, but they do not stir up spirits.
Personally, let me stay with the scientific facts. I do not want to unite ideologies neither of the right nor of the left, I want to continue being a servant of science. I ask for respect, which I give myself to others, wrote Emőke Bagdy in his opinion piece published in Magyar Nemzet.
