The airline said it made a mistake, apologized and promised to provide all help to those involved.

On Monday, there were several posts on Facebook saying that Hungarian nationals were not allowed to board the Wizzair flight from London to Bratislava, only Slovaks. Referring to one of the passengers trapped there, it was written in one of the annotations that, according to the explanatory memorandum, Wizzair decides on the nationality of the citizens and the machine.

One of the passengers told Magyar Hang that he would have traveled to Bratislava at noon on Monday. Baggage check-in had already taken place when one of the airport employees indicated that only Slovak citizens would be allowed to board the plane. According to the article, “Reference was made to Slovak regulations, but passengers indicated that, according to previous information, Bratislava would allow other citizens to leave the country if they do so within eight hours, as confirmed by the Bratislava airport. At the time, employees in Luton said they couldn’t board due to Brexit as the 72 hour grace period had expired and UK authorities only allowed travel to the direct destination, not transit. The passenger stated that he had not received any assistance from either the consulate or Wizzair. Magyar Hang wrote that about 50 people went to bed.

Our newspaper contacted the airline about the matter and we received the following response on Monday afternoon:

Today, several passengers were mistakenly denied boarding on the Wizz Air flight from London Luton Airport to Bratislava. Wizz Air is currently facing unprecedented challenges due to ever-changing travel restrictions imposed by various countries. Wizz Air apologizes for the inconvenience caused by the situation and asks passengers for their patience during this difficult time. The affected passengers will receive all the necessary information and assistance. Wizz Air will provide you with free accommodation and reservations for your next Wizz Air flight. If they do not wish to use this, the airline agrees to either a full refund of the original ticket price or a refund of 120 percent of the original ticket price on credit. Wizz Air repeatedly apologizes for any inconvenience caused.
