The Csurgó woman, whose abdominal cavity was washed with disinfectant instead of saline, died in May at the Szigetvár gynecology hospital, RTL Híradó reported. The woman went to the hospital for routine surgery; died of complications from poisoning.

During the procedure, saline solution was not used to rinse the surgical area, but a disinfectant, the two bottles were exchanged. According to RTL News, a cyst has been removed.

The disinfectant destroys all tissues and is therefore dangerous if it enters the abdominal cavity. The disruption in the functioning of the damaged organ further exacerbates the situation, an expert said.

The woman was transported in crisis to the intensive care unit of the Pécs clinic, from where she no longer returned home. She died of complications from the poisoning, the hospital said. She died of sepsis (blood poisoning), according to the National Center for Public Health (NNK).

He left behind two children.

According to the NNK investigation, the hospital committed an irregularity in the documentation for which the authority imposed a health fine on the institution. According to the bulletin, this amount is two million florins. Due to the case, the hospital ordered an internal investigation and terminated the contracts with two of its employees.

Police said criminal proceedings were still pending.

Previous news reports reported that the bottle may not have been labeled, so the disinfectant, which is commonly used to clean operating rooms and equipment, may have accidentally mixed between the saline solutions.
