Electronic stickers will become more expensive next year at the same rate as the inflation rate in August, meaning motorcyclists, drivers and buses will have to pay much more on toll roads.

The electronic tag will become 3.9 percent more expensive on the toll road network, according to the Hungarian Gazette on Saturday.

The regulation establishes that at the beginning of each year the inflation of August of the previous year must be taken into account, determined annually by the Central Statistical Office, that is, measured against August of the previous year. Now, at the end of the summer, however, prices are up 3.9 percent. The prices of electronic stickers must be indicated in rounds of ten forints.

Based on these, prices will develop as follows from 2021:

The bad news for motorists is that the regulation continues to list the types of electronic stickers known so far, that is, weekly, monthly and annual (national or county) electronic stickers. This means that the introduction of a sticker less than a week, daily or weekend, is not yet on the agenda.

In addition to fees, surcharges will also increase, also by 3.9 percent.

In the case of a D1 or D2 category vehicle, the surcharge paid in 60 days has been HUF 14,875, which will increase to HUF 15,460 from January. If someone paid more than 60 days, so far they have had to pay HUF 59,500, but from January they will have to pay HUF 61,820.

In the case of buses, the amount increases from HUF 66,925 to HUF 69,540 and from HUF 267,700 to HUF 278,140.

The difference in surcharges payable in the event of an error increases from HUF 7,500 to HUF 7,790 in 60 days and from HUF 30,000 to HUF 31,170 in the case of categories D2, D2 + U and B2 + U.

In the case of buses, the new fare will be HUF 54,080 instead of HUF 52,050 and HUF 216,320 instead of HUF 208,200.
