In addition to individual customers, companies have also shown strong interest in purchasing green vehicles, the minister added.
Thanks to additional resources, the innovation portfolio helps to buy more than 230 electric vehicles, more than 2,000 electric vehicles can be purchased
said the Minister.
According to his information, 662 individuals requested the support and 738 companies, including 294 companies that transport passengers by taxi or car, submitted applications for the purchase of an electric car.
Applicant companies came mainly from the IT, sales and trade sectors, but there were also engineering or law firms. The interest of the taxi drivers was the most intense, since the amount of support requested in their applications exceeded the budget of 2 billion HUF that was allocated to them.
Under the tender, 348 companies put out to tender the purchase of electric scooters
– László Palkovics remarked.
The head of the ministry drew attention to the fact that the tender for the purchase of electric vehicles is an important element of the government’s Climate and Nature Action Plan, which aims to promote the greatest possible greening of traffic and the dissemination of the lowest priced electric cars.
The growth of environmentally friendly electric cars in Hungary is essential to achieve Hungary’s climate neutrality goal by 2050, which is already enshrined in law. Regarding the development of the electromobility market, the Minister welcomed the fact that traders were open to reducing list prices, so the tender also stimulated competition in the market.
The government program is accelerating the spread of eco-friendly vehicles, the pace of which has already been at the forefront of Europe in Hungary, he said, recalling that in the first half of 2020 the number of alternative-drive cars on the market increased the most in Hungary.
The frame was sold out in a matter of moments.
Based on the call for tenders announced on May 30, 2020, applications could be submitted as of June 15, 2020. The total value of applications received reached the full amount in less than a day. As a result, a notice appeared on the official IFKA website, according to which
DUE TO THE EXPLOITATION OF THE AVAILABLE RESOURCES, THE INTERESTED PARTIES SUBMITTED THEIR REQUESTS UNTIL 12:00 ON JUNE 16, 2020, THE POSSIBILITY OF PRESENTATION WAS CLOSED.
Why were they in such a rush?
Extremely fast app burnout can be due to several factors:
- Several months have passed since the previous tender ended, and in February it was already possible to suspect from the government’s announcements that a new kind of support was coming. Therefore, the hitherto deferred demand is now entering the market and supply.
- The HUF 2.5 million subsidy, which is higher than before (HUF 1.5 million), may already make electric cars attractive to many others.
- Thanks to the band system of the new program, price competition intensified, the prices of more and more models decreased and customers were able to choose from a wide range, at lower prices than before.
So far, 1,558 applications have been decided
It should be noted that the process is continuous, so far 1,558 applications have been decided and their supporting documents have already been issued. As previously reported, applications are evaluated within 15 days and the applicant has 90 days from the receipt of the letter of support to sign a contract with the selected dealer and a year and a half to take over the new car. Therefore, it is not a problem if the applicant has to wait longer before the production of the new model.
What models will the lucky ones choose?
Those who have successfully applied for and received state support can choose from several electric cars; models below HUF 11 million are summarized in the table below.
Industry installers say there is a great need for subsidies
It is extremely important that policy makers use all their existing means to support the Hungarian automotive industry in the current period, especially important – the statement was made at a joint online professional conference of the Hungarian Automotive Association (MAGE) and Portfolio. There was broad consensus among the top leaders of the Hungarian auto industry that the Hungarian state should also receive additional financial support for the purchase of new cars.
András Salgó, Director of Corporate Communications at BMW Group Hungary, also emphasized that support for electric cars and the existence of support for large seven-seater models are very important. He stressed that an increasing proportion of customers are switching to plug-in models, so it would be important to vigorously build and develop this infrastructure to improve national coverage.
László Urbán, deputy general manager of the Hungarian Suzuki, added that it would be very important to renew the fleet of national cars, which are terribly old and with very high emissions. This support could be provided, for example, by a national junk car scheme (the junk car scheme introduced in Germany and other European countries after the 2008/2009 crisis) or general vehicle taxes from an environmental point of view . However, the role models would not be the car replacement programs implemented after the 2008/2009 global financial crisis: the range of cars that can be replaced with subsidies would not be primarily determined by the age of the used cars, but rather for its emissions.
