Győr’s Audi ETO KC did not host Team Buducnost Podgorica in Group B of the Champions League (BL) in the most ideal conditions. Győr’s team awaited the match as the only undefeated team from the top of the table, however, they could only appear in the group match with only eight outfield players, no left winger and two goalkeepers. Győr won the match 34-29 with a great game.
There were only two people sitting on the bench of the heavily exhausted Hungarian team, who could be replaced on the pitch for the entire match, which, to put it mildly, is not an everyday thing in this sport. Also, as Győr’s head coach, Gábor Danyi also said in an interview before the meeting that he said they had never defended an international match with so few people. In addition, the line of absences was such that they had to bring down the game without a left wing.
The starters were also completely upset by the various injuries, so the match started with extremely interesting lineups. In the second half, Győr’s lead continued to grow and a reassuring 6-7 goal difference between the two teams soon stabilized in favor of the Hungarian side. In the end, Győr won the match 34-29.
With this success, Győr continues to lead their undefeated BL group, and the win against Buducnost meant that the Győr team are 45 games unbeaten in BL, which is an astonishing achievement.
