The article on “Tv2 Facts” accused Krisztina Baranyi, the independent opposition mayor of Ferencváros, of saying that the politician had made a harsh anti-Semitic statement while debating a municipal real estate issue, that is, the drafting of the government document. “In his own right, he became a Jew.”

The facts base this statement on a 17 second audio recording.

In the short conversation snippet excerpted from a multi-hour online conversation, Baranyi, who did not deny 444 that his voice was actually heard, and was indeed spoken, can be heard saying:

“That’s right, so let’s decide now. We don’t sell the land, we don’t have any income from it, but the fucking junk Jewish investor, he can’t build more than 1,200 square feet. Right?”

But in the first hearing, without knowing the antecedents, it is suspicious that what can be heard in the recording is not anti-Semitism, but irony or a figure of alleged anti-Semitism.

Krisztina Baranyi told 444 about the case:

“The ruling came at the end of a multi-hour online debate in which some MPs spoke out against the sale of a smaller municipal parcel. At that time, there was no argument left for their position other than what actually I put a bit provocatively on this topic: just not the investor’s background. Do you object? “

In other words, according to Baranyi, what happened was that he, without understanding what reason there might be in the case given to him for opposing the sale of the given municipal parcel under the given conditions, in his final desperation, provoking one of his interlocutors, he asked if that was it. his problem with the business is that he does not like the supposed origin of the buyer candidate. In other words, Baranyi says that with the quoted phrases he accused him, only covertly, of anti-Semitism.

But what is this real estate story?

The background to the whole case is that some members of the broad opposition coalition, which initially supported Baranyi, opposed a property sale that had the support of the mayor.

But the details of the story are even more interesting.

Every year, the General Assembly of Ferencváros adopts the so-called alienation address book, which lists the properties that the municipality wants to sell that year. The property of the protagonist was on the list this year, with a total of two items, and its sale was voted by the opposition majority that governs the district.

The site in question is located on the left side of the grund, next to the firewall.

Subsequently, the competent commission commissioned 2 appraisals of a vacant lot of 360 square meters on Vágóhíd 6 street and issued a public tender setting a minimum sale price higher than the amount included in both appraisals. There was a bidder for the tender, the owner of the neighboring parcel, who offered more than this minimum price.

However, some deputies opposed the transaction at this price, which is relevant because, despite receiving a valid and conditional offer, the committee had to again agree to the committee. The decision was also on the agenda for the November board meeting, but due to the resurgence of the epidemic, that meeting could no longer be held.

According to the law, in an emergency, the mayor exercises his corporate rights, that is, Baranyi can sign anything. That too. He also signed it, that we know of, on November 26. Then, on December 3, he invited MPs to an online video chat to discuss current affairs. Here the issue of the sale of land was discussed, which was already completed. Tenyek.hu posted some recorded phrases from this.

Baranyi explained to 444 that he did not understand why anyone could object to the sale because it was a special parcel that he thought could only interest the owner of the neighboring parcel, no one else. The neighbor has a service through him, so he has the right to rebuild. For this reason, according to Baranyi, the plot is of no value to anyone else. As the sole interested party offered even more than was established by the committee, Baranyi did not understand why anyone could object to the sale. All the more so because, under the redevelopment right, this means that the neighbor could have touched it even without buying the land, in which case the municipality would have suffered as a result of the loss of income.

Baranyi didn’t understand all of this so much that, towards the end of the video conference, he said, because of this, he was ironic that this could only be opposed by someone who had a problem with the buyer’s perception of origin.

Baranyi told our newspaper that he would sue “news products that spread lies.”
