The name of Gloria Ramírez is almost intertwined with the mystical mysteries still unsolved, since what happened 26 years ago has not been found to be a concrete and reasonable explanation until today, and perhaps never will be.
The 31-year-old woman with two children was admitted to the Riverside Hospital, California, emergency department on February 19, 1994, and was treated for advanced cervical cancer, but not long afterward, very strange things happened to them. doctors and nurses who attended her.
Mystery in the hospital
The woman was transported to the emergency department with respiratory distress, a violent heartbeat, and a mentally unstable state, however, none of the symptoms is characteristic of cervical cancer. The sedative injection administered did not help their condition, they wanted to use a defibrillator to improve the patient’s condition. Blood was drawn from the woman, and Susan Kane, who was in the process, first noticed a strange, chemical, ammonia smell, then complained of a burning face and soon passed out. Resident doctor Julie Gorchynski took over the test tube in which she saw strange crystalline substances floating around, and after a while she also felt dizzy and nauseated and then passed out. When the ventilator, Maureen Welch, also passed out, panic erupted: The entire hospital was evacuated, leaving only a small group around the patient, including Nurse Sallie Balderas, who later also vomited and passed out.
Massive discomfort
Gloria Ramírez entered the emergency department at 8:15 p.m., three-quarters of an hour later, and was pronounced dead at 8:50 p.m. Secondary coroner Dan Cupido first described the cause of death as an extraordinary circumstance, then the woman was said to have died of cancer-related kidney damage.

A total of 23 of the 37 professionals who treated him were ill, five of whom had to be transported to the intensive care unit, and the body was also stored and dissected with the highest safety precautions. What happened quickly surrounded the press, and then began to mention Gloria Ramírez as a toxic woman.
In the most severe cases, however, not only did momentary discomfort and fainting occur: Maureen Welch repeatedly had difficulty breathing, memory loss, and speech problems, Julie Gorchynski suffered from bone necrosis and hepatitis, she was only able to walk on crutches during a long time, and Sallie Balderast. Research and possible explanations.
Everyone wanted to understand the case. Doctors, researchers, family members and the general public as well. Samples were taken from the body, the room where it was treated, but no abnormalities were found in the tests. The toxic woman’s blood samples could no longer be examined because they were destroyed by hospital staff.
In the end, the experts concluded that no poisoning had occurred, citing mass hysteria as the most likely explanation in the investigation, but many disagreed, and sick doctors did not believe this theory, as more people would not have due to mental disorders. The intensive and prolonged disease would not have developed in those who were very close to the patient.
Another possible explanation is that Gloria used DMSO, an ointment containing dimethyl sulfoxide, to ease their pain, which explains the oily skin surface and the garlic flavor appears in most of the users, which makes this rarity still more understandable. Experts said the drug had accumulated in the toxic woman’s body due to kidney failure, crystallized in the test tube as a result of the reaction of oxygen delivered by paramedics, and the defibrillator’s electricity converted DSMO into toxic gases. , which may explain the discomfort of the medical staff. Many say that this theory has no scientific background, so the truth will never be revealed again.
