Four people manually pushed a plane at the Budapest airport on Saturday. A view of the incident, clearly showing that the Lufthansa plane full of passengers is being driven by its wing, was sent to RTL Klub Híradó by a bystander.
At the request of Magyar Hang, Celebi Ground Handling, which serves Lufthansa, admitted that the unusual but not irregular procedure took place on a flight to Munich on Saturday. Traffic director László Jakab told the newspaper that the aircraft could be moved by hand in strict compliance with safety regulations and that all details of the operation had been agreed with the Lufthansa flight crew. He explained why human strength was needed by saying that
“The towing fork required to move the aircraft failed due to an unforeseen event and the replacement fork was also not operational. The aircraft crew decided not to wait for the third fork to be delivered and were asked to move the aircraft by hand. “
