Foreign Ministry cargo truck, bought for 17 billion HUF, first launched

The Foreign Ministry cargo plane took off for the first time on Tuesday, bringing 1.5 million antigen tests from China, Péter Szijjártó reported. In the Facebook post, the minister explains the purchase of the flight saying that

“The first wave of the pandemic provided many lessons. One of them was that a country that has its own air transport capacity can get the equipment it needs to defend itself much faster.”

It is unknown when this lesson was leaked. Previously, we asked the Foreign Ministry what specific issues and delays occurred in the spring, and at Wizz Air if the Ministry had objected to something, and we did not receive a response from either of them. During the first wave, Wizz Air rented passengers and sent them to China for protective gear. According to a July report from the Foreign Ministry, the airline received around 4.713 billion guilders for 65 flights that brought medical equipment and protective equipment home. And that’s certainly not the total, as Wizz Air planes have flown at least a hundred times between the two destinations.

It was bought by the ministry led by Szijjártó in September

one of Qatar Airways Airbus A-330 200F air cargo jets for $ 57.5 million, or about $ 17 billion.

The reason why the Air Force is not buying and operating the aircraft is justified by the fact that it is easier for civil flights to obtain a landing permit. The plane, built in 2014, has been parked in Ferihegy since mid-October and official inspections lasted until early December. Szijjártóke had previously spoken about using the state-owned aircraft if necessary, otherwise it would be operated by WizzAir as a commercial cargo flight.
