Ferenc Jakab: the chances of so-called co-infection are high

If the coronavirus and the flu are infected together, it can have unpredictable consequences, virologist Ferenc Jakab told ATV News.

Already in summer, several experts have spoken that the cold, then the flu and the coronavirus, which appear in the fall, can be dangerous in several ways. On the one hand, it is difficult to distinguish between symptoms, and on the other hand, it is not possible to know how the coronavirus behaves when another virus is present at the same time.

The chances of the so-called co-infection are very high – said Ferenc Jakab, who said that if we follow epidemiological regulations, we can “hit two birds with one stone”, since we can save ourselves from both diseases, writes atv.hu.

Népszava wrote on Tuesday that many people are asking for a free flu vaccine, but only healthy people can get it. However, it is not possible to evaluate applicants.

Virologist Gábor Kemenesi said they don’t know whether giving a flu vaccine to an asymptomatic covid-up could be a problem. Experience has shown that giving the flu vaccine to people with upper respiratory problems, for example, is not good because the immune system is then “busy.”
