Even if he says nicely, Minister Novák still classifies women as fathers

A video was posted on Monday about Katalin Novák, Minister without portfolio for Family and Youth Affairs, in which she talks about how a woman can be successful and fulfilled. The answer may not have surprised anyone that the solution is childbirth, but the secretary of state managed to put it all in such a creepy sexist style that it raised her eyebrows.

According to Katalin Novák:

“Do not think that I, as a woman, have to constantly compete with men, do not believe that we have to compare ourselves at every moment of our lives and have at least the same position, at least the same salary as the other.”

“Don’t think you can’t freely decide or experience your fulfillment as a mother of many children living ‘alone’ for your family.

“Let us not give up our privileges in a misunderstood fight for emancipation. Let us experience the beauty and possibility of harmony that arises from the difference between women and men, dare to say yes to the child … “

“Let us rejoice that we can give life, let us rejoice that we have been given the beauty of love and care for others, let us rejoice that we have someone to take responsibility for.”

Are these thoughts familiar? How have you heard them somewhere before? It’s not by chance. We can hear these phrases for years from politicians and public figures close to Fidesz or people close to Fidesz, so Katalin Novák’s brainstorming is not at all original.

But let’s see who and how it was said before that a woman does not want to earn as much as a man, but has a child because it is for her.

1. István Varga, leader in the fight against domestic violence

We are in Parliament in 2012, in the debate on the popular initiative on domestic violence, which asked Parliament to put on the agenda a proposal to make domestic violence a fact of independent criminal law. This phrase came from the mouth of István Varga, representative of Fidesz:

“Maybe mothers should go back to raising their children, give birth to two or three or rather four or five children, and then it would make sense that they value each other better, and there should be no domestic violence.”

Cast:

“… women forget to give birth to a child in addition to self-realization and emancipation. If you want to be Hungarian in fifty or sixty years … then if everyone has had two, three or four children, you can go to self-realization and emancipation. “

István Varga’s golden saliva caused such outrage that the next day a women’s rights NGO organized a demonstration in front of the parliament, but even Fidesz distanced himself from the statement, and even Antal Rogán said exactly:

“Beyond the previous arguments, we cannot identify with the words of Mr. István Varga yesterday, with which the majority of the group disagrees on many points. We are convinced that the role of women in Hungary goes far beyond the family. Hungarian women actively participate in family support and, in addition to raising children, they begin to work ”.

2. László Kövér, the pinnacle of self-realization

President László Kövér made clear at the 2015 Fidesz Congress that Hungary does not call for gender madness and said about women’s self-realization:

“We want our daughters to consider the quality of self-fulfillment if they can give birth to grandchildren.”

The vice president of Fidesz, Ildikó Pelczné Gáll, also distanced himself from this statement, telling RTL that although depopulation was a real problem, he never wanted anyone to tell him when to give birth, it was everyone’s decision.

Katalin Novák told Origó:

“Childbirth and profession are not mutually exclusive, and it is up to each one to have a child.”

Fat repeated the feat in 2020 when he told szon.hu when unveiling the statue of István Tisza that:

“And it is an undeniable truth that the world belongs to those who are born.” And those who don’t want a child, according to Fat, have embarked on a path of self-liquidation. This year, however, no Fidesz politician has publicly distanced himself from this statement.

3. Ákos, the embodiment of the masculine principle

The next two headlines, although not members of the Fidesz party, were such significant speakers on the subject that they could not be left off the list, because in ideology what they say is definitely similar to the words of Katalin Novák.

Who wouldn’t remember when singer Ákos Kovács gave an interview on Echo TV in 2015, where he said:

“Women don’t have to earn as much money as men. I feel that way.
– Isn’t it your business?
– That’s none of their business.
– What do women do?
“Well, let’s say the feminine principle is fulfilled, right?” Say that we belong to someone. Give birth to someone. “

It also became a great disgrace, which was further fueled by the government. After the interview, Telekom terminated its contract with Ákos, saying that “our company does not consider that the spirit of what was said in the interview of the interpreter on a television channel is compatible with the creed and values of our Group”.

By the time the government terminated his contract with Telekom, he said that “this may be possible in Germany, but we find it unacceptable that someone in Hungary could be discriminated in this way in this way because of their opinions and points of view.”

4. Edda Budaházy, savior of the Hungarian people

The content of Edda Budaházy’s message is the least identical to Novák’s, because while he still presents motherhood as a decision, Budaházy is an obligatory patriotism on which the survival of Hungarians depends. However, somehow, asking several of my acquaintances what they thought of the Novák video, they immediately brought up Edda Budaházy because they felt that they were both encouraging the children in different ways but with similar rhetoric.

The leader of the Hungarian Bring to the World A movement launches his own words to encourage childbirth, as this, in his opinion, can also solve demographic and migration problems.

We first heard her thoughts seeded in 2018 in a video she made to try and encourage motherhood in a passive-aggressive style while saying things like this:

“I’m sorry, but you should know that without giving birth to at least two children, you are also the cause of the destruction of Hungary.”

Despite the outrage and wave of silence surrounding her video, Edda did not stop, regularly appearing at LGBTQ events to confuse them, while expressing that “let’s not be feminists, but mothers!”

5. Katalin Novák, patroness of emancipation

Now what is new in what Katalin Novák said? Basically nothing, except that in just a few years we have gotten there that today not only has the briefing of the legislature arrived, but a member of the government has said that giving birth to a woman can only make one sense. Even Fidesz politicians distanced themselves from a similar idea years ago. What until now has been a controversial position in the party has become a message from the government.

Here’s a reminder of Ákos and Katalin Novák’s paired phrases:

“It is not up to women to earn the same amount of money as men. I feel that way. Well, let’s say the female principle is fulfilled, right? Say that we belong to someone. Give birth to someone. “

“Do not think that I, as a woman, have to constantly compete with men, do not believe that we have to compare ourselves at every moment of our lives and have at least the same job, at least the same salary as the other.”

2020 was an extraordinary year. The coronavirus epidemic and the deepening economic crisis that followed put us to the test, and the government has also used this dire crisis to further strengthen its already unprecedented power.
