Romanian top seed Simona Halep said goodbye to the women’s tournament at the French Open in the eighth final on Sunday.
The 2018 winner of the Paris Grand Slam tournament was, to his great surprise, saying goodbye to the 53rd place in the world ranking, the Polish Iga Swiatek, in two soft sets in 69 minutes.
The Romanian player who is second in the world rankings had previously lost a participation in the semi-finals of the Australian Open in January. After a forced hiatus by a coronavirus epidemic, he also won tournaments in Dubai, Prague and Rome.
The two players also met at last year’s Roland Garros in the eighth final, then Halep won 6: 1, 6: 0 in 45 minutes.
Swiatek, 19, is producing the best performance of his career to date at an adult Grand Slam tournament. He reached the eighth final in Paris last year and Melbourne this year, but now he can play the quarter-finals for the first time.
